| Dirty Harry | We know that some of you are having high-pings when connecting to Battlefield 3 servers and we want to help optimize your server settings! Having a server browser is not commonplace in console games, but it is a very useful feature on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to get you in the right game with the right people. For example, if you're a US-based player located in California, then you'll want to make sure you're connecting to "West US" servers so that you get the best ping. The following server browser tutorial will help you connect with the best settings. Try it out and then join us in Battlelog if this improved your experience. 1) Start the server browser: ![]() Okay, first things first. Go to the MULTIPLAYER option, then move one step down from QUICK MATCH to highlight the SERVER BROWSER option and hit A or X (on Xbox 360/PS3, respectively). 2) Browse available servers ![]() When you enter the server browser, you will se a list of all available servers based on your filter settings. If this is your first time in the server browser, most of your filter settings will be set to ANY, so you will se a wide range iof game modes and maps available to join at your leisure. The two most right hand side columns show whether the server is ranked or not (basically if the server is running default settings, allowing your match be taken up into the official Battlefield 3 stats for your soldier), and what type of server response time you can expect (the more full the ping meter, the better response time and better online performance). Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 3) Personalize your filter settings: ![]() The filter settings is where the server browser really shows its flexibility. Hit R3 (press the right analogue stick down) to enter the filter settings screen. Here, you can set your preferences by hitting A/X in the following criteria (from left to right): Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 Number of players on the server. Select a low number if you want to find servers with lots of available slots for you and your squad. • Mode. This is where you select Conquest, Rush, Team Death Match, Squad Death Match, Squad Rush, or a combination of them. • Preset. Hit NORMAL to only see servers running the game in the normal, default mode. This is a good place to start. If you want an added challenge, check HARDCORE to see hardcore servers. On hardcore mode, bullets do more damage, and you have less HUD elements to guide you on the battlefield. It’s a cool twist to the battlefield experience, and you can read more about it here. Finally, check INFANTRY to see servers where all combat vehicles have been removed. This is a good way to start playing Battlefield without the added layer of vehicle combat. • Ranked. Pick YES or NO or leave unmarked to show both. A ranked server has not changed any of the official rules. A match on a ranked server will be officially registered with your Battlefield 3 soldier stats. • Region. If you don’t set a region here, the server browser will show you servers in all regions of the world. IMPORTANT: To minimize the risk of unnecessary lag and/or rubberbanding when playing online, please make sure to manually select the region closest to you. If you are based in the US, please make sure you have not set the region on this screen to Europe, Asia, or Australia. Once you are happy with your choices, hit B/SQUARE to return to the main server browser screen, where your new filter selections will have taken effect immediately. 4) Go into detail on interesting servers: ![]() If you find a server that whets your appetite, just hit A/X to enter the SERVER INFORMATION screen. Here, you will see even more details about the current game on that server. Navigating this screen with the D-PAD or left stick lets you view information such as what maps will be in this server’s rotation, what players are on right now, what game settings the server is running, and more. From here, you can join the game by pressing A/X or back out to the main server browser screen by hitting B/SQUARE. If you find a server you like, you can FAVORITE it by pressing X/SQUARE. That way, it will always be quickly available for you to rejoin at a later date via the FAVORITES tab. You will typically find that a server that gives you good ping and lagless play will keep doing so when you come back. Also, some players tend to stick to speciifc servers, so chances are you'll also start to recognize your fellow soldiers if you become a regular. 5) Go go go: Once you are happy with all of your settings and the chosen server, just hit Y/TRIANGLE from the server browser main screen to join and start playing. | Dirty Harry | We´ve received many questions on how to join the servers with your squad on Xbox 360 and PS3, therefore we decided to post this guide. In the first screenshot right here, you can see what your user interface looks like with friends online. ![]() If you do have friends on your list that are currently online, you can now start forming a squad by sending invites to your friends. ![]() When you have done so and your friends have accepted your squad invite, their highlighted boxes will be in green which means that you are now in a squad and ready to join the server as a squad. Go into the Server Browser and pick a server you would like to play on. A good piece of advice is to pick a server that isn´t completely full. To be on the safe side, pick a server that has 16/24 on them since they fill up quite fast. ![]() When you are finally in-game, (note that the screenshot was taken on an empty server) you are ready to own it up :). ![]() Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 Source: BF Blog

| Dirty Harry | A Origin developer on ea.com made a thread to address various issues with Origin. Basic Tips: 1) Make sure you have the most current version of Origin installed. These are available from here. 2) Some compatibility issues exist with Origin concerning VPN and proxy networking. 3) Make sure you are connected to the internet. Security Software: If you are running Origin for the first time, or if you have just upgraded to a newer version of Origin this may affect you. Some types of security software or combinations of may hamper some Origin processes. -Add Origin.exe, EACoreServer.exe, OriginClientService.exe, and EAProxyInstaller.exe should be added to your list of security exceptions. -If your security software contains a game mode, try running it with it on. Data Execution Prevention(DEP): If you find Origin being blocked or interrupted, you can try adding Origin.exe, EACoreServer.exe, OriginClientService.exe, and EAProxyInstaller.exe to your list of DEP exceptions Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Settings (Under performance) -> Data Execution Prevention -> Click add and choose your exceptions User Access Control (UAC): If you have user access control on, it may cause issues with Origin, in particular during game installations. Try running Origin with User Access Control turned off. Running Origin as Administrator: If Origin starts up very slowly. -Origin handles UAC escalations on its own so running it as administrator is not needed. In some rare cases, running Origin as administrator may help. -You can also try re-install Origin as an Administrator Internet Connection Not Detected: If you are connected to the internet, but you keep getting error messages about Origin needing to be connected to the internet. Look at your System Tray and highlight your network connectivity Icon You may see something similar to this in your system tray or a message stating your network is not connected. Disabling Extraneous Network Connections: Navigate to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center > change adapter settings > right click on connection and disable. You can then try disabling every other network connections besides your main internet connection(i.e. hamachi, wireless, etc..). Here is an FAQ with an advanced workaround for this issue. Repair/Reset Winsock settings: Navigate to start menu – cmd (bring up command prompt) - and type "netsh winsock reset" then press enter, and restart PC. Clearing the DNS Resolver Cache: Windows XP: -Click the "Start" button and choose "Run." -Enter the letters "cmd" into the "Run" box and hit the "Enter" key. -Type "ipconfig /flusdns" into the window that appears. Be sure to leave a space between the "G" and the forward slash. Hit the "Enter" key. When you see a message that says, "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache," you are done. Windows 7: -Click the "Start" button or hit the Windows key to bring up the programs menu. Type the letters "cmd" into the search box and wait as the search results compile. -Right-click on the icon labeled "cmd" that appears under the "Programs" menu. -Type "ipconfig /flushdns" after the "C:\Windows\system32" prompt that appears. Make sure you leave a space between the "G" and the forward slash. Wait for the "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache" message to appear to complete the process. Deleting Your Origin Offline Cache: This is for clearing out saved info like passwords or entitlement info stored on the Origin Client. 1. Exit Origin completely. Right click system tray icon > Exit. 2. Navigate to the OfflineCache file. Here's the path: Win 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Origin\DownloadCache{ your email address } Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Electronic Arts\Origin\DownloadCache{ your email address } 3. Delete the OfflineCache file. 4. Reboot your computer. 5. Run Origin and login. (Advanced) Origin Not Installed Error: This could happen if you are installing Origin in one location (C:\) and then moving it to another directory which would break your registry key. If you are savvy with navigating the Windows registry, look here: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\origin\shell\open\command The (default) key should be set to the Origin executable. If not, that's the cause of the issue. Reinstalling Origin should repair it. Here is another workaround. 1. Exit ORIGIN completely. 2. Run a Command prompt as Administrator 3. Navigate to where ORIGIN is installed 4. Run the command: Origin.exe /Register 5. Run ORIGIN and see if you still get the error message. Source: ea.com

| Dirty Harry | The same Origin developer on ea.com made this thread to address various issues with Origin. ![]() 1.Select Windows icon in lower left hand corner. 2.Type, “cmd” in the “search programs and files, and hit “enter” on your keyboard ![]() 3. Once the command prompt comes up, type “ipconfig” and hit “enter” on your keyboard. ![]() 4. You will some network information displayed. (Your information will not match that displayed in this screen shot). Take note of the “Default Gateway” ip address. In this case, 192.168.1.254 Write this number down for reference. Once complete, type “exit” and hit “enter” on your keyboard. This window will now close. ![]() 5. Now select “Control Panel” from the Windows icon in the lower left hand corner. ![]() 6. From the “Control Panel”, select “Network and Internet”. ![]() Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 7. You will now see some basic network information. On the left of the screen you need to select “Change Adapter Settings”. ![]() 8. Select your “Local Area Connection”, right click and select, “Properties” ![]() 9. Within the “Local Area Connection Properties”, locate the “TCP/IPv4”. Click the “Properties” button. ![]() 10. Within the “TCP/IPv4 Properties”, select the “Advanced” button. ![]() 11. Within the “Advanced TCP/IP settings”, select the “Add” button in the “Default gateways” section. ![]() 12. Within the “TCP/IP Gateway Address”, you will need to enter the Default Gateway IP that you found in ipconfig. In this example, you would enter, 192.168.1.254. Once entered, select “Add”. Exit out of all windows by selecting “OK”. 13. This should now resolve “some” activation issues as well as users being unable to connect to servers. The cause of the issue is based in a Windows configuration error. Although Windows can connect to the internet and access other network destinations, “Windows” is telling Origin that you do not have a valid internet connection. You may even notice in the lower right hand corner an icon stating as such. For more reference please see right here. Source: ea.com

| Dirty Harry | We have added support for Stereoscopic 3D in the Frostbite 2 engine by rendering each frame twice (once for each eye). This gives us full control of how our game looks in 3D, and lets us create an even more visceral experience for the player. Rendering each frame twice is quite performance heavy, though, so take that into consideration if you want to play with Stereoscopic 3D enabled. To improve performance, you may want to reduce graphics quality or resolution compared to what you normally would use when playing without Stereoscopic 3D. Using a multi GPU setup will also improve performance, as each GPU can share the work load. Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 NVIDIA 3D Vision technology: NVIDIA 3D Vision is a combination of 3D Vision wireless glasses and 3D Vision Ready monitors. You can look for the 3D Vision Ready icon on your monitor, or check this page to find out if your monitor and GeForce GPU support Stereoscopic 3D. Enable 3D Vision by going to the NVIDIA control panel, and in the Stereoscopic 3D tab, make sure "Enable stereoscopic 3D" is set. Battlefield 3 will use the standard 3D Vision settings and hotkeys. Adjust the amount of depth effect using the scroll wheel on the 3D Vision IR emitter or by using the keyboard shortcuts. The default shortcuts are CTRL-F4 to increase the depth, and CTRL-F3 to decrease the depth. You can customize these shortcuts in the Stereoscopic 3D control panel. ![]() AMD HD3D: See this page to find out if your monitor and Radeon GPU support Stereoscopic 3D. Make sure you have downloaded the latest Battlefield 3 update. ![]() If you did not download the Battlefield 3 update we released December 6th, do so now. Either check the download progress bar within your Origin application to verify that the latest update is downloading and installing, or use the download manager in Battlelog to make sure your game is updated to the latest version. Without this step, you will not be able to play Back to Karkand, but if you have played Battlefield 3 the last week, chances are you are already properly updated. 3. Buy Back to Karkand/Enter your boxed code ![]() You can buy Back to Karkand for $14.99 (£11.99/149 SEK/14.99 euro) from the Origin web store. Or, if you prefer, you can buy it from within your Origin application itself. Click "Battlefield 3" inside Origin to see Back to Karkand, or search for Back to Karkand in the search field within your Origin application. If you bought the code-in-a-box version of Back to Karkand (a physical box for PC with a download code inside), start your Origin application, click the cog icon, select “redeem code” and enter the code found in your box. This will start the download of Back to Karkand. 4. Find your new maps. ![]() The four new Back to Karkand maps (Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, and Gulf of Oman) will appear in the server browser, just like any other map. You will also be able to filter for only Back to Karkand maps by clicking the Back to Karkand logo in the top left corner of the server browser’s filter settings. Servers running Back to Karkand maps will have a small brown "B2K" icon in the server list to help you identify them. Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 5. Go back to Karkand! Jump into the game and enjoy your new content! You can find information on your new Back to Karkand Assignments in the "Assignments" tab on your stats page in Battlelog, and your profile will have the new "B2K" icon to verify that you have Back to Karkand. Q: What happens if I try to join a game with Back to Karkand maps, and I haven't bought Back to Karkand? A: You will see a message warning you that you need Back to Karkand. See image below. | Dirty Harry | If you are having troubles connecting, or losing connection to our EA servers, please read the information below. This information below should help you understand how your internet connection works and how you can work with settings to make it better. NAT type is one of the single most important and most overlooked aspects to a quality online gaming experience. Learning how NAT type works and how to forward your router/firewall’s ports correctly will save you countless hours of headaches trying to understand why your connection isn’t as strong as it could be. While sudden disconnects can occur for a variety of reasons, a good way to gauge whether it is your internet connection or something else is by paying attention to your Xbox LIVE/PSN connectivity as well. If you’re having to sign back on, or losing connection to your party/VOIP session, then the problem is likely coming from NAT/firewall or ISP restrictions. First things first. Are you using a Microsoft/Sony suggested router? The Microsoft and Sony support pages have a wealth of information on how to properly set up your console in your home network (including lists of recommended router types). Xbox - right here. Ps3 - right here. Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 If you’re using a wireless router connection and experiencing connectivity issues, try plugging your console directly into the router. There are many reasons that wireless connectivity can suddenly drop but the easiest way to be sure that it ISNT your wireless connection, is to see if the problem persists after your console is directly connected with an Ethernet cable. If you’re wireless savvy you can try changing your wireless channel (refer to your router instructions for additional info). If you’re directly connected to your router and still experiencing connectivity issues the problem is more than likely, your NAT type. The easiest and most simple way around these issues is to enable UPnP or Universal Plug-n-Play. 1. First, you need to access your router’s config page to see if it supports UPnP. (Router config pages can usually be found on any literature that came with the device, or even the manufacturers website.) 2. Usually this is a separate portion of the config page that allows the user to check or uncheck a UPnP box (enable or disable). Once you find this box, enable UPnP and back out. 3. Save your config page changes and reboot your console. Performing a Network test now should reveal that you NAT is open (the optimal Online gaming condition) 4. Play through a full game to see if the problem persists If you are directly connected to your router, do NOT have UPnP capabilities (or it didn’t work to enable UPnP) and are still experiencing connectivity issues the problem is still, more than likely, your NAT type- only it is now slightly harder to fix. The process and exact steps of forwarding your ports will vary depending on the make and model of your router but in depth tutorials can be found here. The steps for Ps3 are exactly the same except you would change the specific port numbers to: • UDP 3659 • UDP 6000 • TCP 9946 • TCP 42100 • TCP 13000 -> 13100 After forwarding your ports, always make sure to save your config page changes and reboot your kit to ensure that settings are taking effect. If you are still experiencing problems with disconnects contact your ISP support line to see if setting up a ‘DMZ’ is the right option for you. (Always take care when exploring this option as it could potentially open your network to unwanted communication.) If you’ve exhausted all NAT options and still find yourself disconnecting from the EA servers- write down every step/action you take on the way to the point of disconnect (make a note of any special settings/options you have personalized in the game) and communicate the problem to an appropriate forum thread. EA employees are constantly monitoring and researching community issues. The more thoroughly researched and reported the issue, the quicker the fix can be put together. | Dirty Harry | Over the past few weeks BF 3 PC players have been having issues with Punkbuster. Mainly they’ve been getting kicked out of games because of it. First it started with a simple hack that allowed nefarious douche bags to abuse the system and allow PunkBuster to ban innocent gamers. Assuming that a lot of those issues have been patched up, but you’re still getting kicked after five minutes, here are some instructions from Community Manager Daniel Matros. • Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager • Go to the PROCESSES tab • Find PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe and END PROCESS on both of them • Download PBSVC.exe from evenbalance.com [evenbalance.com] and run it as Administrator. It will check and update Punkbuster. • Download PBSetup from evenbalance.com [evenbalance.com] and run it as Administrator (Add all the games you have installed to the list) and run the process. • Log back in to Battlelog and connect to a server of your choice. This should resolve the kicking after 5 minutes that some of you are seeing. For the PC players getting disconnected, can you please run a WireShark log while you are playing/getting disconnected and get the LOG file to me? If you aren’t familiar with WireShark, I have made this quick and easy guide for you to follow (NOTE: No network traffic data is sent to EA/DICE or Evenbalance while you run Wireshark, the only time we will see your network traffic is when/if you send us the log file): Install: • Download Wireshark from wireshark.org wireshark.org] ensuring you get the correct version (32 or 64 bit). The website should highlight the correct one for your needs. • Install it by following the Install Shield directions it provides • When it asks which components you want to install, have all of them highlighted • You can chose whether to allow its File Extension associations • Install WinPcap when requested, without this the live data won’t be captured • You can chose whether to allow WinPcap loads at boot time • Load Wireshark • Clicking INTERFACE LIST will show all network adapters on the PC. It will also show which one is active as Packets will be flowing on that connection • If you don’t use all your network connections you should disable everything except the one you want to use through the Control Panel. Using Wireshark: • From the INTERFACE LIST window click on OPTIONS • In this window leave all the options as they are by default • Disable/turn off all other software including Web Browsers, Messenger Services, Downloads, Spotify etc. • Load Battlelog and find the server to join or be ready to hit QUICK PLAY On Wireshark window click START, it should change to a window showing network activity, this is normal NOTE: IF network traffic doesn’t start to populate the screen, then the wrong network adapter has been selected and should return to the start of this guide and select another network adapter. Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141 • Join the server you want to play on in Battlelog and let Battlefield 3 load and begin playing as normal • When you disconnect from the server go to Wireshark • At the top under the word VIEW (4th icon from the left) is a little red STOP sign which when you highlight it says “STOP THE RUNNING LIVE CAPTURE” – Click it • Go to FILE – SAVE AS and save the log somewhere that is easy to find • Ensure that CAPTURED and ALL PACKETS under the Packet Range is selected • Once the file is saved, have the file zipped or rar´d and made available. Another common issue which affects PC and consoles is the uPnP setting in the routers. Following the manual from your router manufacturer, go in to your router control panel and enable/disable uPnP (the opposite of whatever is active at the time) and try BF3 again. Source: mmomfg.com

| Dirty Harry | We’re taking the next step in advancing online competitive play in the Battlefield 3 community. The “Matches” feature will allow players to coordinate competitive multiplayer sessions with their friends and squad members. Battlefield 3 players will be able to select the time, server, game settings, and roster for their Matches creating a controlled and definitive environment for competitive play. Players will be able to coordinate Matches for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 through the Battlelog. To coordinate a Match a player must be actively renting a dedicated server. Once a dedicated server has been selected the Match host can set the Match name, start time, game mode, team size, and map rotations. ![]() After these preliminary decisions have been made, game settings are determined for the Match. Matches are completely customizable; an extensive list of settings including friendly fire, 3D spotting, squad-leader spawning, kill cam, health regeneration, a list of weapon unlocks that will be made available to players, and more can be set to exact specifications. ![]() With the Match settings in place, players then select the rosters for their teams from their list of friends and platoon members. A team leader for the rival team is assigned who in turn also chooses a roster for the opposing team.
