Default Battlefield 3 - Your Quick Guide To The Server Browser

We know that some of you are having high-pings when connecting to Battlefield 3 servers and we want to help optimize your server settings! Having a server browser is not commonplace in console games, but it is a very useful feature on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to get you in the right game with the right people. For example, if you're a US-based player located in California, then you'll want to make sure you're connecting to "West US" servers so that you get the best ping. The following server browser tutorial will help you connect with the best settings. Try it out and then join us in Battlelog if this improved your experience.

1) Start the server browser:

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-serverbrowser1.jpg

Okay, first things first. Go to the MULTIPLAYER option, then move one step down from QUICK MATCH to highlight the SERVER BROWSER option and hit A or X (on Xbox 360/PS3, respectively).

2) Browse available servers

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-serverbrowserbrowser.jpg

When you enter the server browser, you will se a list of all available servers based on your filter settings. If this is your first time in the server browser, most of your filter settings will be set to ANY, so you will se a wide range iof game modes and maps available to join at your leisure. The two most right hand side columns show whether the server is ranked or not (basically if the server is running default settings, allowing your match be taken up into the official Battlefield 3 stats for your soldier), and what type of server response time you can expect (the more full the ping meter, the better response time and better online performance).
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141

3) Personalize your filter settings:

The filter settings is where the server browser really shows its flexibility. Hit R3 (press the right analogue stick down) to enter the filter settings screen. Here, you can set your preferences by hitting A/X in the following criteria (from left to right):

Number of players on the server. Select a low number if you want to find servers with lots of available slots for you and your squad.

• Mode. This is where you select Conquest, Rush, Team Death Match, Squad Death Match, Squad Rush, or a combination of them.

• Preset. Hit NORMAL to only see servers running the game in the normal, default mode. This is a good place to start. If you want an added challenge, check HARDCORE to see hardcore servers. On hardcore mode, bullets do more damage, and you have less HUD elements to guide you on the battlefield. It’s a cool twist to the battlefield experience, and you can read more about it here. Finally, check INFANTRY to see servers where all combat vehicles have been removed. This is a good way to start playing Battlefield without the added layer of vehicle combat.

• Ranked. Pick YES or NO or leave unmarked to show both. A ranked server has not changed any of the official rules. A match on a ranked server will be officially registered with your Battlefield 3 soldier stats.

• Region. If you don’t set a region here, the server browser will show you servers in all regions of the world. IMPORTANT: To minimize the risk of unnecessary lag and/or rubberbanding when playing online, please make sure to manually select the region closest to you. If you are based in the US, please make sure you have not set the region on this screen to Europe, Asia, or Australia.

Once you are happy with your choices, hit B/SQUARE to return to the main server browser screen, where your new filter selections will have taken effect immediately.

4) Go into detail on interesting servers:

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-serverbrowserdetails.jpg

If you find a server that whets your appetite, just hit A/X to enter the SERVER INFORMATION screen. Here, you will see even more details about the current game on that server. Navigating this screen with the D-PAD or left stick lets you view information such as what maps will be in this server’s rotation, what players are on right now, what game settings the server is running, and more. From here, you can join the game by pressing A/X or back out to the main server browser screen by hitting B/SQUARE.

If you find a server you like, you can FAVORITE it by pressing X/SQUARE. That way, it will always be quickly available for you to rejoin at a later date via the FAVORITES tab. You will typically find that a server that gives you good ping and lagless play will keep doing so when you come back. Also, some players tend to stick to speciifc servers, so chances are you'll also start to recognize your fellow soldiers if you become a regular.

5) Go go go:

Once you are happy with all of your settings and the chosen server, just hit Y/TRIANGLE from the server browser main screen to join and start playing.

Default Battlefield 3 - A Guide On How To Squad Up For The Xbox360 & PS3

We´ve received many questions on how to join the servers with your squad on Xbox 360 and PS3, therefore we decided to post this guide. In the first screenshot right here, you can see what your user interface looks like with friends online.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-squadjoin1.png

If you do have friends on your list that are currently online, you can now start forming a squad by sending invites to your friends.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-squadjoin2.png

When you have done so and your friends have accepted your squad invite, their highlighted boxes will be in green which means that you are now in a squad and ready to join the server as a squad. Go into the Server Browser and pick a server you would like to play on. A good piece of advice is to pick a server that isn´t completely full. To be on the safe side, pick a server that has 16/24 on them since they fill up quite fast.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-squadjoin4.jpg

When you are finally in-game, (note that the screenshot was taken on an empty server) you are ready to own it up :).

Default Battlefield 3 - Crashes, Lag, Stuttering, Low FPS, Graphics, Origin and Fixes.

I found on the website segmentnext.com several possible solutions that you can use to fix problems that some people are experiencing wit Origin and With Battlefield 3.
  1. Doesn’t Install From Disc:
When you put the Disc and try to install the game, Origin will start and try to download the game. Now, it may seem at first, it is downloading from the internet but in fact, it is downloading from the disc you put inside your disc drive. If you have fast enough disc drive, it wouldn’t take long.

  2. Looping Audio and Chopping – Audio Lag:
If you are experiencing random audio lag and a transitional state between smooth and laggy gameplay, you may want to run the game in Stereo or you can go into sound manager settings and set the sound quality to 44K. You can do that by going into your playback devices > speaker properties > advanced. It will be drop down menu.

  3. You should be logged-in as Administrator to Run This:
If you come across this error, run origin as admin and re-launch the game using it. Or make a new admin account and install the game using it. Make sure you have user account control disabled in OS (Win7).

  4. Low Performance On High-end graphics Card:
If you are only experiencing issues with Battlefield 3 while all other games run fine on your high-end card, you should delete your old drivers and install the latest drivers – 285.62 Nvidia.

  5. Game Won’t Start:
Make sure you aren’t blocking the game. Disable your security programs and run Origin as admin. If possible, add BF3 exe to use admin privileges to start.

  6. Release Check and Re-install:
If Origin asks you to re-install the game again after you have already downloaded and installed the game. You may want to try repairing the game first.

  7. Battlefield 3 Stopped Working:
Repair your damn game – Go into your Origin Client, right-click BF3, click Repair Install, and it will re-download and re-install the game with new patches and updates.

  8. Can’t Log-in to Battlog.net:
Make sure you haven’t added Battlelog dot net to trusted services in IE. Pull Battlelog out of trusted sites list and re-try. Or you can try using a different browser.

  9. Origin Not Installed When Try To Install Battlefield 3:
While you have origin installed. Fix is to manually uninstall origin and do a fresh install. To manually uninstall Origin, you will need to edit your system registry and remove the folders in a two-part process. This will remove all traces of Origin from your system. To remove all the game folders:

    • Open My Computer.
    • Open your hard drive (by default, Originis installed on theC drive).
    • Open the Program Files folder (Program Files (X86 for 64-bit).
    • Right-click on theOriginfolder and choose Delete.
    • A “Confirm Folder Delete ” window will appear; choose Yes.

Also in the Program Files folder, go to the InstallShield Installation Information. *If you cannot find this folder you may have to go to Tools > Folder Settings and click the setting to “SHOW hidden folders “.

    • Right-click on the{EF7E931D-DC84-471B-8DB6-A83358095474} entry and choose Delete.
    • A “Confirm Folder Delete” window will appear; choose Yes.
    • When the folder is deleted, close the window.
    • Right-click on yourRecycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.

Now you can remove the registry keys for the game:

    • Click on Start and then click on Run…
    • In the text line type regedit, then click OK.
    • Click on File and then Export…
    • Choose a location and name for the file (this will be your backup registry file).
    • Click Save.

The next steps will all be performed in the left pane of the Registry Editor window:

    • Click on the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    • Click on the + next to SOFTWARE.
    • For 64-bit systems, this should be Wow6432Node
    • Click on the + next to Electronic Arts.
    • Right-click onEA Corefolder and choose Delete.
    • Click on the + next to Microsoft.
    • Click on the + next to Windows.
    • Click on the + next to Current Version.
    • Click on the + next to Uninstall.
    • Right-click on{EF7E931D-DC84-471B-8DB6-A83358095474}and choose Delete.
    • A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.

If you also need to remove the cache associated with Origin, please do the following:

    • Open My Computer.
    • Double-click the C drive. (By default, this is where the cache folder is created. If you previously specified a different location for the cache folder, you will need to delete that custom folder.)
    • Double-click the ProgramData folder.
    • Double-click the Electronic Arts folder.
    • Right-click on Originand choose Delete.
    • A “Confirm Folder Delete” window will appear; choose Yes.

Origin has now been completely removed from your system.

  10. Battlefield 3 Has Stopped Working:
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Servers are over-loaded. I know you want to play the game but give developers a chance to adjust themselves to the unprecedented demand of the game. It will get fixed soon, probably sooner than our anticipation. It is one of those general day 1 issues.

  11. Battlefield 3 Random Crashes:
If your game is randomly crashing, repair the game – it will install an update which will resolve the issues that cause these crashes.

  12. Battlefield 3 Graphics Bugs and Glitches:
Before you jump into the game, make sure you have updated your video card drivers.

  13. Kicked By Administrator – Punkbuster Fix:
If you are getting random kicks out of the server with this message, you should know that Punkbuster is trolling you, unless you are cheating. You can fix it by following the workaround below:

    • Go into your Origin games directory (mine was C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games)
    • Copy the “pb” folder and the “pbsvc.exe” from the “Battlefield 3 BETA” folder, and pasted it in my “Battlefield 3″ folder.
    • Run the pbsvc.exe (it might be unnecessary but I did it anyway).
    • Restart the game and have fun!

  14. Battlefield 3 Stutter Fix:
Turn off Intel Hyper Threading in Bios to fix the issue. You will find the option to disable/enable Hyper Threading in Bios. If that sounds a bit scary, you can wait for DICE to resolve it in the next patch. You can also try to run the game with one-cpu. I mean run the game by setting the affinity to one CPU. Open your Task Manager, click on the Battlefield 3 process and then on Set Affinity. Select only one CPU from the available and Press OK!/Apply.

Setting either of these settings can have diverse effects, good or bad. So try it if you know what you are doing.

  15. Low Performance, Low Framerates:
Again, if you have good enough system but are experiencing low performance than usual, you should try turning off Intel Hyper Threading in Bios or run the game with affinity set to 1. It would make the frame rates constant and remove the stuttering that you may experience in the single and multiplayer constantly otherwise.

  16. How To Switch Back to Default Settings After a Screw-Up:
Oh, this is important for most of us. We like to tweak around with new games in our attempt to optimize them to run perfect on our systems. In this attempt sometime we screw it up and the result is inability to start the game.

If this happens with Battlefield 3, delete the settings folder in my documents/battlefield 3 to reset to defaults and start fresh.

  17. Battlefield 3 Crashes and Locks Up:
Repair the game. Fix the installed game.

  18. 3D Vision Support:
Wait for the patch – Battlefield 3 doesn’t support it on launch but will be after a patch as the engine is built to support 3D technology.

  19. Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 Controller Support:
Will be fixed down the road – That’s what the developer said.

  20. Battlefield 3 Input Lag Fix:
Go into nvidias control panel and set vsync to force off and max prerendered frames to 0.

  21. Origin Network Couldn’t Be Reached:
This issue may be caused by Winsock corruption and developer suggested, you can fix it by following the instructions below:

    • Click on Start button.
    • Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
    • Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request. (you can right-click on the cmd.exe program and select “Run as Administrator” – that’s more direct).
    • Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
    • Restart the computer.

  22. How to Link EA/Origin Account To PSN:
Go to help at Origin and select ‘Contact Us’. You will need to provide the following information:

    • PSN ID
    • Email for EA account
    • Email for PSN ID account
    • Birthdate associated with PSN ID account

  23. Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Port Forwarding:
If you are experiencing connection issues of any sort, you can forward these ports and add Battlefield 3/origin to your firewall and security program’s exception lists. Ports are:

    PC
    • TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
    • UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

    Playstation 3
    • TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 10000-10100, 17502, 42127
    • UDP: 3659, 14000-14016

    Xbox 360
    • TCP: 53, 88, 3074
    • UDP: 53, 88, 3074

  24. Online Pass Check Failed – How To Add:
Go to store, press triangle and it will let you input your code. Don’t try it when you are on Vodka/Tequila.

  25. You Are Not Allowed To Log-in Battlelog:
Because servers are too busy. No big deal, would be resolve by the next time you try, after waiting half a day.

  26. My Weapons’ are not Visible When I respawn:
Console specific. To resolve it, restart your console.

  27. Battlefield 3 Lag Fix – Performance Issues:
There can be several reason for the lag to occur when you are playing Battlefield 3. We can only snipe the general issues, so first, update your Nvidia and ATI graphics card drivers.

Close all background applications and hope, your internet connection isn’t the cause. If you end up troubleshooting your internet connection, refer to this guide.

  28. Battlefield 3 Random Disconnects:
Update your Punkbuster Manually. You can read the instructions here. Steps are:

    • Download the PBSetup utility.
    • Run it.
    • Add BF3 to your list of PB games.
    • Run a manual update.

  29. Battlefield 3 Corrupt Shadows and Stuttering Fix:
Don’t use Ultra Shadows – lower down the shadows if you are using Nvidia drivers 285.62.

  30. Can’t Bind The Mouse Buttons?
Enable Raw Mouse Input in options.

  31. Game Freezes Then Crash To Desktop With ‘Stopped Working’ Error:
Make sure you don’t have nVidia control panel or ATI Tray Tools FPS overlay enabled, exit the app to fix this issue.

  32. Sluggish / Unresponsive Mouse:
    • Go here: C:\Users\YOU\Documents\Battlefield 3\settings
    • Open PROF_SAVE_profile with notepad++ (can download for free)

    Change the following variables:
    Quote:
    GstInput.MouseSensitivity 0.050000
1st one is the normal mouse sensitivity. These variables can be edited to fix the mouse responsiveness:

    • GstInput.Scheme0Sensitivity 0.000000
    • GstInput.Scheme1Sensitivity 0.000000
    • GstInput.Scheme2Sensitivity 0.000000

  33. How To Play Battlefield 3 Using Steam Overlay:
    • Disable Origin’s overlay (click the gear/cog and go to the “in game” settings tab).
    • In Steam, add Origin.exe as a non-steam game to your library.
    • Launch the Origin shortcut from your Steam library, then launch BF3.

  34. Long Map Load Times – Slow Loading Battlefield 3:
    • Open / Run: regedit.
    • Navigate to: HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/WoW6432Node/EA Games
    • Change the GDFBinary & InstallDir paths to C:Program Files (x86)Origin GamesBattlefield 3
    • Try to launch the game and join game servers, and it should work.

Alternatively, you can buy a SSD drive, install BF3 & origin on there.

  35. Stability Issues – Battlefield 3 Crashes During Install:
    Nvidia Freezes and Crashes
    • Update to LATEST Nvidia Drivers
    • Turn OFF – AA – DEFERED
    • Turn OFF – VSYNC
    • Turn OFF – Motion Blur

    Nvidia Lockup and Freezes
    • Download the latest bios for your video card for your card’s manufacturer’s website.
    • Flash it.
    • Reboot and that’s it. You have fixed the freezes and lock up issues.

    AMD – Crash and Freeze
    • Load up single player.
    • Under options disable Anti Aliasing ( AA deferred )
    • Disable AA post to be on the safe side.
    • Download the latest drivers from your laptop manufacturer and install them. Multiplayer should work after that.

  36. Battlefield 3 PC Lockup and Freeze With Looping Audio:
It’s caused by Battlefield 3 bug with onboard sound card. Fix is to install a separate sound card and use that. Disable the default onboard sound card in BIOS.

  37. “Battlefield 3 (BF3) Install Fails, Cannot Install”:
Uninstall Microsoft C++ files from your system, and re-install them later after you Battlefield 3 is installed on your system.

  38. Battlefield 3 Crashes To Desktop On Launch:
    • Repair your Battlefield 3 installation.
    • Disable SLI or Crossfire.
    • Disable anti-aliasing and filtering.
    • Disable V-sync.

Default Origin Network Troubleshooting Tips.

A Origin developer on ea.com made a thread to address various issues with Origin.

Basic Tips:

1) Make sure you have the most current version of Origin installed. These are available from here.
2) Some compatibility issues exist with Origin concerning VPN and proxy networking.
3) Make sure you are connected to the internet.

Security Software:
If you are running Origin for the first time, or if you have just upgraded to a newer version of Origin this may affect you. Some types of security software or combinations of may hamper some Origin processes.

-Add Origin.exe, EACoreServer.exe, OriginClientService.exe, and EAProxyInstaller.exe should be added to your list of security exceptions.
-If your security software contains a game mode, try running it with it on.

Data Execution Prevention(DEP):
If you find Origin being blocked or interrupted, you can try adding Origin.exe, EACoreServer.exe, OriginClientService.exe, and EAProxyInstaller.exe to your list of DEP exceptions
Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Settings (Under performance) -> Data Execution Prevention ->
Click add and choose your exceptions

User Access Control (UAC):
If you have user access control on, it may cause issues with Origin, in particular during game installations. Try running Origin with User Access Control turned off.

Running Origin as Administrator:
If Origin starts up very slowly.

-Origin handles UAC escalations on its own so running it as administrator is not needed. In some rare cases, running Origin as administrator may help.
-You can also try re-install Origin as an Administrator

Internet Connection Not Detected:
If you are connected to the internet, but you keep getting error messages about Origin needing to be connected to the internet. Look at your System Tray and highlight your network connectivity Icon
You may see something similar to this in your system tray or a message stating your network is not connected.

Name: warning_icon.jpg
Views: 3875
Size: 17.6 KB

Disabling Extraneous Network Connections: Navigate to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center > change adapter settings > right click on connection and disable. You can then try disabling every other network connections besides your main internet connection(i.e. hamachi, wireless, etc..).

Here is an FAQ with an advanced workaround for this issue.

Repair/Reset Winsock settings:
Navigate to start menu – cmd (bring up command prompt) - and type "netsh winsock reset" then press enter, and restart PC.

Clearing the DNS Resolver Cache:
Windows XP:
-Click the "Start" button and choose "Run."
-Enter the letters "cmd" into the "Run" box and hit the "Enter" key.
-Type "ipconfig /flusdns" into the window that appears. Be sure to leave a space between the "G" and the forward slash. Hit the "Enter" key. When you see a message that says, "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache," you are done.

Windows 7:
-Click the "Start" button or hit the Windows key to bring up the programs menu. Type the letters "cmd" into the search box and wait as the search results compile.
-Right-click on the icon labeled "cmd" that appears under the "Programs" menu.
-Type "ipconfig /flushdns" after the "C:\Windows\system32" prompt that appears. Make sure you leave a space between the "G" and the forward slash. Wait for the "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache" message to appear to complete the process.

Deleting Your Origin Offline Cache:
This is for clearing out saved info like passwords or entitlement info stored on the Origin Client.
1. Exit Origin completely. Right click system tray icon > Exit.
2. Navigate to the OfflineCache file. Here's the path:
Win 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Origin\DownloadCache{ your email address }
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141
Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Electronic Arts\Origin\DownloadCache{ your email address }
3. Delete the OfflineCache file.
4. Reboot your computer.
5. Run Origin and login.

(Advanced) Origin Not Installed Error:
This could happen if you are installing Origin in one location (C:\) and then moving it to another directory which would break your registry key.

If you are savvy with navigating the Windows registry, look here:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\origin\shell\open\command
The (default) key should be set to the Origin executable.
If not, that's the cause of the issue. Reinstalling Origin should repair it.

Here is another workaround.
1. Exit ORIGIN completely.
2. Run a Command prompt as Administrator
3. Navigate to where ORIGIN is installed
4. Run the command: Origin.exe /Register
5. Run ORIGIN and see if you still get the error message.

Default Advanced Workaround For Lan Connection Not Being Detected.

The same Origin developer on ea.com made this thread to address various issues with Origin.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_1.png

1.Select Windows icon in lower left hand corner.
2.Type, “cmd” in the “search programs and files, and hit “enter” on your keyboard

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_2.png

3. Once the command prompt comes up, type “ipconfig” and hit “enter” on your keyboard.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_3.png

4. You will some network information displayed. (Your information will not match that displayed in this screen shot).
Take note of the “Default Gateway” ip address. In this case, 192.168.1.254

Write this number down for reference. Once complete, type “exit” and hit “enter” on your keyboard. This window will now close.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_4.png

5. Now select “Control Panel” from the Windows icon in the lower left hand corner.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_5.png

6. From the “Control Panel”, select “Network and Internet”.

7. You will now see some basic network information. On the left of the screen you need to select “Change Adapter Settings”.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_7.png

8. Select your “Local Area Connection”, right click and select, “Properties”

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_8.png

9. Within the “Local Area Connection Properties”, locate the “TCP/IPv4”. Click the “Properties” button.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_9.png

10. Within the “TCP/IPv4 Properties”, select the “Advanced” button.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_10.png

11. Within the “Advanced TCP/IP settings”, select the “Add” button in the “Default gateways” section.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-workaround_11.png

12. Within the “TCP/IP Gateway Address”, you will need to enter the Default Gateway IP that you found in ipconfig. In this example, you would enter, 192.168.1.254. Once entered, select “Add”. Exit out of all windows by selecting “OK”.

13. This should now resolve “some” activation issues as well as users being unable to connect to servers.
The cause of the issue is based in a Windows configuration error. Although Windows can connect to the internet and access other network destinations, “Windows” is telling Origin that you do not have a valid internet connection. You may even notice in the lower right hand corner an icon stating as such.

For more reference please see right here.

Default Battlefield 3 - How to Enable Stereoscopic 3D

We have added support for Stereoscopic 3D in the Frostbite 2 engine by rendering each frame twice (once for each eye). This gives us full control of how our game looks in 3D, and lets us create an even more visceral experience for the player. Rendering each frame twice is quite performance heavy, though, so take that into consideration if you want to play with Stereoscopic 3D enabled. To improve performance, you may want to reduce graphics quality or resolution compared to what you normally would use when playing without Stereoscopic 3D. Using a multi GPU setup will also improve performance, as each GPU can share the work load.

NVIDIA 3D Vision technology:

NVIDIA 3D Vision is a combination of 3D Vision wireless glasses and 3D Vision Ready monitors. You can look for the 3D Vision Ready icon on your monitor, or check this page to find out if your monitor and GeForce GPU support Stereoscopic 3D.

Enable 3D Vision by going to the NVIDIA control panel, and in the Stereoscopic 3D tab, make sure "Enable stereoscopic 3D" is set. Battlefield 3 will use the standard 3D Vision settings and hotkeys. Adjust the amount of depth effect using the scroll wheel on the 3D Vision IR emitter or by using the keyboard shortcuts. The default shortcuts are CTRL-F4 to increase the depth, and CTRL-F3 to decrease the depth. You can customize these shortcuts in the Stereoscopic 3D control panel.

AMD HD3D:

See this page to find out if your monitor and Radeon GPU support Stereoscopic 3D. Enable HD3D by starting Battlefield 3 and go into the options menu. In the video options tab, change STEREOSCOPIC 3D to ON. Adjust the depth using the slider in the menu.

2: HEAD TO THE IN-GAME STORE

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-b2k_2d00_2.jpg

Go to the main menu. Select “STORE” and hit X to enter it.

3: FIND BACK TO KARKAND IN THE IN-GAME STORE

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-b2k_2d00_3.jpg

When in the in-game store, you will find Back to Karkand as one of the items. If you are a Limited Edition owner, the price will be set to 0. If not, it’s yours at $14.99 (or the equivalent in your currency). Select it and make any necessary payment to start the download.

4: FIND YOUR NEW MAPS

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-b2k_2d00_4.jpg

There are four new maps in Back to Karkand: Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, and Gulf of Oman. After you have downloaded the expansion pack, these maps will all appear exactly the same way as the nine base game maps. You can find them by filtering for them in the Quick Match settings, or you can find them using the server browser. A full guide to the server browser is available here.

5: GO BACK TO KARKAND!

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-b2k_2d00_5.jpg

You are now ready to go back to Karkand! Have fun and let us know what you think in the Battlelog forums.

Q: WHY DO I GET RETURNED TO THE MAIN SCREEN?

A: If you do not have Back to Karkand and join a server running a Back to Karkand map in its rotation, you will eventually be returned to the main menu and a message will appear telling you that you did not have the appropriate content installed. You will never risk joining a Back to Karkand server via the Quick Match functionality if you don't have this expansion pack.

Default Battlefield 3 - How To Go Back To Karkand On PC

1. Confirm if you are entitled to Back to Karkand at no extra charge.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-pc2.png

If you are a Limited Edition owner, you will get the Back to Karkand expansion pack at no extra charge. An easy way to check if you are entitled to this is to log in to Battlelog as usual. If you are a Limited Edition user, you should see a banner on the left hand side that says you own Back to Karkand and are ready to play it. You can skip to step 4 below.

2. Make sure you have downloaded the latest Battlefield 3 update.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-pc3.png

If you did not download the Battlefield 3 update we released December 6th, do so now. Either check the download progress bar within your Origin application to verify that the latest update is downloading and installing, or use the download manager in Battlelog to make sure your game is updated to the latest version. Without this step, you will not be able to play Back to Karkand, but if you have played Battlefield 3 the last week, chances are you are already properly updated.

3. Buy Back to Karkand/Enter your boxed code

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-pc4.png

You can buy Back to Karkand for $14.99 (£11.99/149 SEK/14.99 euro) from the Origin web store. Or, if you prefer, you can buy it from within your Origin application itself. Click "Battlefield 3" inside Origin to see Back to Karkand, or search for Back to Karkand in the search field within your Origin application.

If you bought the code-in-a-box version of Back to Karkand (a physical box for PC with a download code inside), start your Origin application, click the cog icon, select “redeem code” and enter the code found in your box. This will start the download of Back to Karkand.

4. Find your new maps.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-pcfindyourmaps.jpg

The four new Back to Karkand maps (Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, and Gulf of Oman) will appear in the server browser, just like any other map. You will also be able to filter for only Back to Karkand maps by clicking the Back to Karkand logo in the top left corner of the server browser’s filter settings. Servers running Back to Karkand maps will have a small brown "B2K" icon in the server list to help you identify them.
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141

5. Go back to Karkand!

Jump into the game and enjoy your new content! You can find information on your new Back to Karkand Assignments in the "Assignments" tab on your stats page in Battlelog, and your profile will have the new "B2K" icon to verify that you have Back to Karkand.

Q: What happens if I try to join a game with Back to Karkand maps, and I haven't bought Back to Karkand?

A: You will see a message warning you that you need Back to Karkand. See image below. You can still join a server that has Back to Karkand maps, but once a Back to Karkand map goes into play, you will be returned to Battlelog.

Default Battlefield 3 - Losing Connection to EA Servers

If you are having troubles connecting, or losing connection to our EA servers, please read the information below. This information below should help you understand how your internet connection works and how you can work with settings to make it better.

NAT type is one of the single most important and most overlooked aspects to a quality online gaming experience. Learning how NAT type works and how to forward your router/firewall’s ports correctly will save you countless hours of headaches trying to understand why your connection isn’t as strong as it could be. While sudden disconnects can occur for a variety of reasons, a good way to gauge whether it is your internet connection or something else is by paying attention to your Xbox LIVE/PSN connectivity as well. If you’re having to sign back on, or losing connection to your party/VOIP session, then the problem is likely coming from NAT/firewall or ISP restrictions.

First things first. Are you using a Microsoft/Sony suggested router? The Microsoft and Sony support pages have a wealth of information on how to properly set up your console in your home network (including lists of recommended router types).

Xbox - right here.
Ps3 - right here.
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141

If you’re using a wireless router connection and experiencing connectivity issues, try plugging your console directly into the router. There are many reasons that wireless connectivity can suddenly drop but the easiest way to be sure that it ISNT your wireless connection, is to see if the problem persists after your console is directly connected with an Ethernet cable. If you’re wireless savvy you can try changing your wireless channel (refer to your router instructions for additional info).

If you’re directly connected to your router and still experiencing connectivity issues the problem is more than likely, your NAT type. The easiest and most simple way around these issues is to enable UPnP or Universal Plug-n-Play.

1. First, you need to access your router’s config page to see if it supports UPnP. (Router config pages can usually be found on any literature that came with the device, or even the manufacturers website.)
2. Usually this is a separate portion of the config page that allows the user to check or uncheck a UPnP box (enable or disable). Once you find this box, enable UPnP and back out.
3. Save your config page changes and reboot your console. Performing a Network test now should reveal that you NAT is open (the optimal Online gaming condition)
4. Play through a full game to see if the problem persists

If you are directly connected to your router, do NOT have UPnP capabilities (or it didn’t work to enable UPnP) and are still experiencing connectivity issues the problem is still, more than likely, your NAT type- only it is now slightly harder to fix. The process and exact steps of forwarding your ports will vary depending on the make and model of your router but in depth tutorials can be found here.

The steps for Ps3 are exactly the same except you would change the specific port numbers to:
• UDP 3659
• UDP 6000
• TCP 9946
• TCP 42100
• TCP 13000 -> 13100

After forwarding your ports, always make sure to save your config page changes and reboot your kit to ensure that settings are taking effect. If you are still experiencing problems with disconnects contact your ISP support line to see if setting up a ‘DMZ’ is the right option for you. (Always take care when exploring this option as it could potentially open your network to unwanted communication.)

If you’ve exhausted all NAT options and still find yourself disconnecting from the EA servers- write down every step/action you take on the way to the point of disconnect (make a note of any special settings/options you have personalized in the game) and communicate the problem to an appropriate forum thread. EA employees are constantly monitoring and researching community issues. The more thoroughly researched and reported the issue, the quicker the fix can be put together.

Default Battlefield 3 - Instructions To Help With PunkBuster Issues

Over the past few weeks BF 3 PC players have been having issues with Punkbuster. Mainly they’ve been getting kicked out of games because of it. First it started with a simple hack that allowed nefarious douche bags to abuse the system and allow PunkBuster to ban innocent gamers. Assuming that a lot of those issues have been patched up, but you’re still getting kicked after five minutes, here are some instructions from Community Manager Daniel Matros.

• Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and select Task Manager
• Go to the PROCESSES tab
• Find PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe and END PROCESS on both of them
• Download PBSVC.exe from evenbalance.com [evenbalance.com] and run it as Administrator. It will check and update Punkbuster.
• Download PBSetup from evenbalance.com [evenbalance.com] and run it as Administrator (Add all the games you have installed to the list) and run the process.
• Log back in to Battlelog and connect to a server of your choice.
This should resolve the kicking after 5 minutes that some of you are seeing. For the PC players getting disconnected, can you please run a WireShark log while you are playing/getting disconnected and get the LOG file to me?
If you aren’t familiar with WireShark, I have made this quick and easy guide for you to follow (NOTE: No network traffic data is sent to EA/DICE or Evenbalance while you run Wireshark, the only time we will see your network traffic is when/if you send us the log file):

Install:

• Download Wireshark from wireshark.org wireshark.org] ensuring you get the correct version (32 or 64 bit). The website should highlight the correct one for your needs.
• Install it by following the Install Shield directions it provides
• When it asks which components you want to install, have all of them highlighted
• You can chose whether to allow its File Extension associations
• Install WinPcap when requested, without this the live data won’t be captured
• You can chose whether to allow WinPcap loads at boot time
• Load Wireshark
• Clicking INTERFACE LIST will show all network adapters on the PC. It will also show which one is active as Packets will be flowing on that connection
• If you don’t use all your network connections you should disable everything except the one you want to use through the Control Panel.

Using Wireshark:

• From the INTERFACE LIST window click on OPTIONS
• In this window leave all the options as they are by default
• Disable/turn off all other software including Web Browsers, Messenger Services, Downloads, Spotify etc.
• Load Battlelog and find the server to join or be ready to hit QUICK PLAY
On Wireshark window click START, it should change to a window showing network activity, this is normal

NOTE: IF network traffic doesn’t start to populate the screen, then the wrong network adapter has been selected and should return to the start of this guide and select another network adapter.
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=180141

• Join the server you want to play on in Battlelog and let Battlefield 3 load and begin playing as normal
• When you disconnect from the server go to Wireshark
• At the top under the word VIEW (4th icon from the left) is a little red STOP sign which when you highlight it says “STOP THE RUNNING LIVE CAPTURE” – Click it
• Go to FILE – SAVE AS and save the log somewhere that is easy to find
• Ensure that CAPTURED and ALL PACKETS under the Packet Range is selected
• Once the file is saved, have the file zipped or rar´d and made available.

Another common issue which affects PC and consoles is the uPnP setting in the routers. Following the manual from your router manufacturer, go in to your router control panel and enable/disable uPnP (the opposite of whatever is active at the time) and try BF3 again.

Default Battlefield 3 - Matches Feature Coming

We’re taking the next step in advancing online competitive play in the Battlefield 3 community. The “Matches” feature will allow players to coordinate competitive multiplayer sessions with their friends and squad members. Battlefield 3 players will be able to select the time, server, game settings, and roster for their Matches creating a controlled and definitive environment for competitive play.

Players will be able to coordinate Matches for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 through the Battlelog. To coordinate a Match a player must be actively renting a dedicated server. Once a dedicated server has been selected the Match host can set the Match name, start time, game mode, team size, and map rotations.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-3-640x267.png

After these preliminary decisions have been made, game settings are determined for the Match. Matches are completely customizable; an extensive list of settings including friendly fire, 3D spotting, squad-leader spawning, kill cam, health regeneration, a list of weapon unlocks that will be made available to players, and more can be set to exact specifications.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-4-5-full-page-640x769.png

With the Match settings in place, players then select the rosters for their teams from their list of friends and platoon members. A team leader for the rival team is assigned who in turn also chooses a roster for the opposing team. With the teams set, the Match is scheduled for creation and players can begin taking their places.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-15-640x359.png

Before the Match begins players may engage in a Warm-up Phase where no kills or points are counted. The Match will stay in this state until all participating players have signaled that they are ready from the pause menu.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-view-matchesresults-640x526.png

After the Match is completed players can review the results on Battlelog. Players can see the number of rounds played, what maps were used, the team that won each round, and other relevant information.

Battlefield 3 - Clientside Technical support-scheduled-matches-640x171.png

With Matches, Battlefield 3 players will be able to create, control, and track directly competitive online play. Platoons, friends, and rivals will be able to put their teamwork to the test in controlled environments laying claim to definitive superiority and creating new grudges. Stay tuned for more details including a release date for Matches!
