Default Valve Retail Sales Figures

Since the release of Half-Life 10 years ago, Valve Software has been raking in the big bucks at retail:
Independent developer Valve has released lifetime retail sales figures for most of its own titles released over the company's ten-year history, partially quantifying the company's ongoing success by demonstrating tens of millions of units sold.
But Valve kept some cards close to the chest, declining to reveal digital download numbers. (All of the following statistics were described as Valve's estimates of worldwide lifetime-to-date retail sales.) Half-Life, the debut effort released by the PC-oriented Seattle-area studio a decade ago last month, put Valve on the map and remains its highest seller to date with 9.3 million units sold at retail, according to statistics released alongside a profile in the November 2008 issue of Game Informer magazine. Gearbox Studios' expansion packs Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift sold 1.1 million and 800,000 units respectively.
Sales figures:
  • Half-Life (PC, Valve) - 1998 - 9.3 Million Units Sold
  • Half-Life: Opposing Force (PC, Gearbox) - 1999 - 1.1 Million Units Sold
  • Half-Life: Blue Shift (PC, Gearbox) - 2001 - 800,000 Units Sold
  • Counter-Strike (PC, Valve) - 2000 - 4.2 Million Units Sold
  • Counter-Strike (Xbox, Valve) - 2003 - 1.5 Million Units Sold
  • Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (PC, Valve) - 2004 - 2.9 Million Units Sold
  • Counter Strike: Source (PC, Valve) - 2006 - 2.1 Million Units Sold
  • Half-Life 2 (PC, Valve) - 2004 - 6.5 Million Units Sold
  • Half-Life 2: Episode One (PC, Valve) - 2006 - 1.4 Million Units Sold
  • The Orange Box (PC, Valve) - 2007 - 3 Million Units Sold (Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, Team Fortress 2)
In related news, popular Half-Life 2 modification Garry's Mod has done quite well too.
