Default INFO Left 4 Dead 2

Destructoid is mongering a rumor that Valve and EA will be showing off Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 next week:
E3 is right around the corner, and Destructoid has been hearing all sorts of juicy rumors. A lot of things are being said, and among them a very reliable source has informed us that Valve and Electronic Arts are looking to reveal Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 next week.
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums INFO Left 4 Dead 2

L4D 2 will see four different survivors battling the infected horde as they try to survive the game's four scenarios. The game is said to be set during the same time frame and locations as the first title, but the four new survivors will be fighting off the infected in other parts of the same locations. To us, it sounds a bit like Ada sidequests from Resident Evil 4 -- while Leon was going through his mission, Ada was running around the same areas, doing her own thing.

Default Left 4 Dead 2 Preview

If the other zillion Left 4 Dead 2 stories aren't enough for ya, cruise on over to read our eyes-on preview of the game in action:
Not too long ago we received a cryptic invitation from Valve to check out a mystery game. I think it's safe to say that everyone was expecting Half-Life 2: Episode 3 to be the main attraction, but we'll have to talk about the never-ending adventures of Mister Gordon Freeman another time. Left 4 Dead is getting a sequel! Already! Yeah, it's pretty shocking, I know. Valve usually doesn't kick out games this quickly. It's a testament to the Source Engine and its tools that the team was able to crank out so much, so very quickly. Hell, they even gave a release date! November 17th, 2009.

These eight Left 4 Dead 2 (4x2=8 - genius!) gameplay movies are not High Definition, but they're better than nothing:

Default Left 4 Dead 2 High Definition Trailer Released

All I can say is: Chainsaw? Hell f'in yeah! Enjoy this pre-rendered debut trailer for Valve's shock announcement, Left 4 Dead 2!
Overview:
Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer smash from Valve, creators of the Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike game properties. Left 4 Dead 2 promises to become one of 2009's top-selling games and set a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to the award-winning L4D style of play, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.
Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.
Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, maps for Survival mode at launch, and more.
Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC this November, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor and Online.

Setting:
Left 4 Dead 2 is set at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of 4 new “Survivors,” each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these “Survivors” through the southeastern region of the US - from Savannah, Georgia thru the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

Product Features:
  • Next generation co-op action gaming from the makers of Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
  • AI Director 2.0: Advanced technology dubbed “The AI Director” drove L4D’s unique gameplay – customizing enemy population, effects, and music, based upon the players’ performance. L4D features “The AI Director 2.0” which expands the Director’s ability to customize level layout, world objects, weather, and lighting to reflect different times of day.
  • New melee weapons – axe, chainsaw, frying pan, baseball bat – allow you to get up close with the zombies
  • Four different survivors. New Story. New dialogue.
  • More game. On day one, L4D 2 features more co-operative campaigns, more campaigns and maps for the Versus game modes than L4D 1, plus support for Survival mode out of the box.
  • Stats, rankings, and awards system drives collaborative play

Platform/Ship Date:
  • Available November 17, 2009
  • Coming to Xbox 360 and the PC

Default Left 4 Dead 2 Hands-On Preview

INFO Left 4 Dead 2-l4d23.jpg

Rock Paper Shotgun managed to score a hands-on preview of Valve's much anticipated "Left 4 Dead 2". New locations, new characters, new weapons, new monsters... what more could we ask for? How about five new campaigns set in the Southern US? RPS got to check out a full campaign and the verdict seems quite positive. As they say, "bigger and better" with even more infected to kill this time around!
In New Orleans we reached a graveyard that is different each time you play. As Valve explained to us, if the Director gives you a pretty straight route right through it, it’s an insult to how poorly you’ve been playing that the omnipotent AI thought it needed to make things a little easier for you. If you’ve won his robotic respect, then it’ll be a far more convoluted journey.

While there’s no intention to waste players’ time with dead ends, there is a greater emphasis on rewarding exploration. You may well learn the correct route through most of a level, but heading off down a longer pathway, or going to check out an out of the way room, is more likely to be beneficial. The Director is, we’re told, going to be far smarter this time about placing items, and the selection of these has expanded as well. Which includes the incendiary ammo.

Default E3 2009: Left 4 Dead mods "playable with L4D 2" reveals Lombardi

Fear not, all those hours you spent forging your own gift to Left 4 Dead's PC community won't have been a waste - Valve confirm sequel will support them.

Current SDK tools will work with Left 4 Dead 2. Valve's Lombardi says they've jammed in as many ideas as they could, admitting you can get lost "chasing really killer ideas" though.
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums INFO Left 4 Dead 2

"Mods that people are making now with the Left 4 Dead 1 SDK will be playable with L4D 2," said Lombardi, likely to a collective nerd cheer across the globe.

"There's always an endless set of ideas that people come up with, whether it's for in the game or out of the game," he said.

"We just have to decide what's of the highest value and which are the most useable, because you can get lost chasing really killer ideas and leave the rest of the game behind."

Default Left 4 Dead 2 Boycotters Over 20,000 Strong

Steam's Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott Group now has over 20,000 members. The group has pledged to boycott Valve's L4D2, which is scheduled for release in November, 2009. They have created a manifesto and the whole she-bang. While they recognize that they cannot pass judgement on Left 4 Dead 2 until its release, they are still committed to the following:
  • To holding Valve to its promise of free, continual updates to Left 4 Dead in order to build and sustain the community.
  • To keeping the Left 4 Dead community together in order to improve the quality of online gaming.
  • To supporting the model of continual updates Valve has set forth with its staple products like Team Fortress 2.
Furthermore, they believe that:
  • The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming.
  • The announced content of Left 4 Dead 2 does not warrant a stand-alone, full-priced sequel and should instead become updates (free or otherwise) for Left 4 Dead.
  • Left 4 Dead has not yet received the support and content which Valve has repeatedly stated will be delivered.
  • The release of Left 4 Dead 2 will make Left 4 Dead an obsolete purchase and inferior piece of software after only one year since release.
Alright, so here are their list of demands:
  • That Valve honor its commitment to release ongoing periodic content for Left 4 Dead.
  • That Left 4 Dead 2 not be released as a stand-alone, full-priced sequel but as either a free update to Left 4 Dead or an expansion with full compatibility with basic Left 4 Dead owners.
  • That Left 4 Dead owners be given discounts for Left 4 Dead 2, should it be released as premium content.
The group promises to "abstain from the purchase of Left 4 Dead 2" until their requests are addressed.

Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums INFO Left 4 Dead 2
