No mention is made of Wii or Nintendo 3DS version of the game, although Activision does not typically announce its new Call of Duty games for these platforms alongside the main reveal. Nintendo may have asked Activision to keep a lid on any proposed Wii U version until the E3 trade show in June 2012, where Nintendo plans to fully unveil its Wii successor. A Call of Duty game is confirmed to be in development for PS Vita, although the studio behind it is yet to be revealed. Sources: allgamesbeta.com, eurogamer.net and youtube.com

| Dirty Harry | CVG's Black Ops 2 preview went live this morning following the release of the debut trailer. Call of Duty is arguably gaming's biggest franchise, but it's fair to say sections of the PC crowd have felt let down by the series in a number of respects, perhaps most recently with CoD Elite's no-show on the platform and the late arrival of DLC. With that in mind, our friends at PC Gamer grilled Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia on the tricky creative, technical and customer service decisions the developer's facing with Black Ops 2. Here are a few excerpts, Lamia on dedicated servers: Quote:

| Dirty Harry | Dig into the official YouTube page for Call of Duty and you'll discover a five part video series where some experts in warfare paint a very scary vision of what the future can bring. The series features P.W. Singer, a future war expert and author of Wired for War, retired USMC Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, and a few soldiers as they talk about how far technology has come, and where they see the technology heading. The above is a synopsis of the five part series, which you can see in full below. The themes this documentary of sorts shows is the scenario fueling Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Check out our extensive first-look preview for more on Treyark's latest.

| Dirty Harry | Now that you’ve seen the reveal trailer, you might be wondering whether zombies will make it back to Black Ops 2. To ease your concerns, Treyarch has confirmed that Zombies will be back, which comes as no surprise as since World at War it has been become one of the most popular modes in Treyarch developed Call of Duty titles. During the latest episode of Roll Call on Call of Duty Elite TV, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia stated: Quote:

| Dirty Harry | Studio Head at Treyarch Mark Lamia and Game Design Director David Vonderhaar discuss Black Ops 2 multiplayer, E-Sports and everyone’s favorite: Zombies. In case you haven’t heard, Black Ops is kind of a big deal again, what with the recent Black Ops 2 reveal trailer which we highly recommend checking out. If that’s not enough for you, be sure to check out our in-depth trailer analysis where we take a look at potential killstreaks and high-tech weapons included in this near-future sequel. Though the single player is said to take place during missions spanning the 80′s all the way up to the year 2025, Treyarch has stated that the multiplayer will take place exclusively in the near-future setting of the year 2025. This gives developers a near-endless amount of opportunities to do something truly unique with the gameplay in Black Ops 2′s multiplayer. Mark Lamia explained to CVG in a recent interview: Quote:

New modes will also be introduced to Treyarch’s ever-so-popular Zombie game type. Those worried about a lack of attention to their favorite game mode need not worry. Lamia has described it as Treyarch’s “biggest, most-ambitious zombies ever.” Interestingly, this will also be the first time that Zombies will run on the same engine used for the multiplayer. Previously, Zombies ran on a jury rigged campaign engine. A legitimate concern of many Call of Duty fans is that Black Ops 2 will lose its realistic and gritty tone while being set in the near-future. Luckily, Lamia stresses that staying believable is a top priority for the Treyarch team. We gotta be grounded, explains Lamia. Words to live by. So far, things are looking promising for the future of Black Ops 2 (literally). Of course, this is only the beginning. Sources: theverge.com, youtube.com and mp1st.com

| Dirty Harry | We'd bet our houses on Black Ops 2 being the biggest selling game of 2012. What's probably more interesting is whether it's going to be bigger than its predecessors, or whether analysts are right to suggest the monster FPS franchise may be on the wane. Either way, Black Ops 2 is off to a great start at Amazon, with the online retailer telling MCV that day one pre-orders were three times as high as those achieved by the original Black Ops in 2010. Amazon UK video games manager Graham Chambers said: Quote:

Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=187274 He previously contributed to Black Ops but only joined halfway through the project, according to Kotaku. Goyer will write Black Ops 2's story from the ground up, with the aim of creating a memorable villian in the form of Raul Menendez, who turns the US and Chinese governments against each other. Unveiled yesterday, Black Ops 2 is set during a 21st century Cold War and will release on November 13 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game's first trailer has revealed that the campaign will feature usable drones and horses, as well as a robot enemy force to fight in a devastated Los Angeles. | Dirty Harry | Treyarch’s Mark Lamia has said the organization players will be up against in Black Ops 2 is the real-life Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, or SCO, which in the fiction of the game has militarized itself. First, a bit of background on the SCO for you, courtesy of Wikipedia. The real SCO is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization, which was originally formed in 1996 as the Shanghai Five by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. When Uzbekistan joined the group in 2001, the organization was renamed. During its July 2005 summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, representatives of India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan attended, and by 2007 the SCO had initiated over twenty large-scale projects ranging from transportation, energy and telecommunications to meetings where discussions on security, military, defence, foreign affairs, and economics were held. The SCO is now recognized by the United Nations and is an observer in the General Assembly, the European Union, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. In Black Ops 2, during the year 2025, the organization has its own special forces as well as its own black ops. Lamia told Kotkau: Quote:
Hopefully, the developers will shed more light on the conflict in the game, and how closely it all ties into current politics between the various counties and organizations – and how, if at all, they will play into the zombie portion of the game. Sources: kotaku.com and vg247.com

| Dirty Harry | Treyarch’s Black Ops II marks the series’ first move into the future, but it also raises questions about the ongoing relationship between Activision and Infinity Ward. Over two years ago, details regarding the lawsuit began to appear publicly. One such detail stated that Call of Duty titles set after Vietnam would be exclusive to Infinity Ward. We recently obtained some court documents, and it appears that this clause was indeed included in Infinity Ward’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). As you can see in the MOU excerpt above, Infinity Ward had the rights to all Call of Duty games set in modern day (post-Vietnam), the near future, or distant future. With Black Ops II’s 2025 setting, it’s clear that Treyarch went with the near future setting anyway. With the historically stressful relationship between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, the documents suggest that the latter may have been frustrated with their restrictions.. Several documents allude to Treyarch’s repeated attempts to feature elements that would make the original Black Ops feel more modern or otherwise bank off of the popularity of the Modern Warfare name. One complaint revolves around the use of guns in Black Ops that weren’t designed or made available until the 1980s or 1990s. Another centers on an email from an Activision rep that initially proposed Modern Warfare Origins as a title for Black Ops, branding it as a prequel to Infinity Ward’s series. Infinity Ward’s MOU states that the developer had the rights to anything featuring Modern Warfare branding. Despite this, former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella claim that Activision never provided them with the gold master of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex (the Treyarch-developed Wii port of Call of Duty 4) before the game went into production. Another claim states that Activision attempted to keep Infinity Ward in the dark regarding the development of the free-to-play Call of Duty Online title (which never materialized). Considering that the trial is yet to happen, it's unclear if Activision could land itself in legal trouble thanks to Black Ops II's futuristic setting. I spoke with Eric Chad, an intellectual property attorney with the firm Merchant & Gould. Regarding Activision's punishment if Zampella and West win the lawsuit, Chad said: Quote:

| Dirty Harry | Little has been confirmed about the gameplay and game modes of Black Ops II’s multiplayer other than the fact that it will be set in the year 2025, as confirmed earlier by Studio Head at Treyarch Mark Lamia, and other than what we’ve discovered in our trailer analysis. However, since Black Ops II’s reveal on May 1st, developers at Treyarch have given us at least a few hints that we’ll have to make due with. Treyarch has confirmed Zombies to be returning, as many already know, but you may have missed that Combat Training, a popular practice game mode featured in the original Black Ops, will also be returning as confirmed by Treyarch on twitter. When it comes to multiplayer, little is known about the game modes we will be treated to. We can assume standards like free-for-all, team deathmatch and domination will be returning, but what about the fan-favorite Search-and-Destroy? According to Gameplay Designer at Treyarch, David Vonderhaar, we will be seeing a game mode (or game modes) that is inspired by SnD, but perhaps not quite the same. Vonderhaar stated in response to a follower on Twitter: Quote:

• A default two-hit knife system with a perk that makes it one-hit knife • The knife to be a secondary • The knife to be in the equipment slot What changes to the knifing system would you like to see made in Black Ops II? What do you think this new SnD-inspired multiplayer game mode could be? Sources: mp1st.com and twitter.com

| Dirty Harry | Sound has always played an important role in the serious Call of Duty gamer’s game plan. Commonly referred to as “sound whoring,” it is a technique that must be developed in order to play at pro levels. With previous Call of Duty titles featuring perks that altered the volume of enemy footsteps but never having quite perfected the balance issues, Treyarch developer David Vonderhaar is looking to strike a happy middle ground in the upcoming Black Ops II. According to Vonderhaar, Call of Duty games have traditionally had perks that have made your footsteps quiet or quieter (depending on your point of view about what should be included in that: gear rattle, weapon switch sounds, mantel exertions, breath noise, pain recovery., etc), and have also had perks (or perk pros, depending on the game) that make enemy footsteps louder. The question that Vonderhaar poses to his followers is this: Quote:
