Default INFO Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Activision has announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 13th November. The pre-order description on the official Call of Duty website reveals basic story detail:

Quote:
Black Ops 2 is set in the near future, during a 21st century Cold War where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.
The debut trailer is currently linked to but set to private on YouTube. Leaked images show the game's quadrotor, teased in a video released previously which you can see below. There's box art too.

No mention is made of Wii or Nintendo 3DS version of the game, although Activision does not typically announce its new Call of Duty games for these platforms alongside the main reveal. Nintendo may have asked Activision to keep a lid on any proposed Wii U version until the E3 trade show in June 2012, where Nintendo plans to fully unveil its Wii successor. A Call of Duty game is confirmed to be in development for PS Vita, although the studio behind it is yet to be revealed.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Official Reveal Trailer.

Here is the new reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the next installment in the military shooter series that looks like it will indeed take place in the near future as rumored, as it shows off an insurrection against domestic automated military weapons that are now under enemy control, and it concludes with the tagline: The Future is Black.

Default Black Ops 2 - On PC Treyarch tackles the tough questions.

CVG's Black Ops 2 preview went live this morning following the release of the debut trailer. Call of Duty is arguably gaming's biggest franchise, but it's fair to say sections of the PC crowd have felt let down by the series in a number of respects, perhaps most recently with CoD Elite's no-show on the platform and the late arrival of DLC.

With that in mind, our friends at PC Gamer grilled Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia on the tricky creative, technical and customer service decisions the developer's facing with Black Ops 2. Here are a few excerpts, Lamia on dedicated servers:

Quote:
We had it with Black Ops, so the architecture exists. But we haven't yet announced exactly what that setup is going to be... We like the flexibility, just philosophically, of the dedicated server. We also like our game to be played the way we spent the last couple of years making it, and try to find that happy medium between the two.
Lamia on combating cheats:

Quote:
We know it's a huge issue in PC gaming, for online gaming. We've been working on proprietary schemes, we're not just relying on the commercial schemes ... We have a lot of experience, especially after Black Ops, seeing what people were doing to the game, and... we are going to try to make it fun for as many people as possible.
Lamia on Call of Duty Elite for Black Ops 2:

Quote:
It's one that Activision has to answer for us... Our engine's really well-integrated with all that stuff... It takes advantage of Elite pretty nicely.
Head over to PC Gamer for the full interview, in which Lamia also tackles questions on LAN play and a potential beta.

Dig into the official YouTube page for Call of Duty and you'll discover a five part video series where some experts in warfare paint a very scary vision of what the future can bring. The series features P.W. Singer, a future war expert and author of Wired for War, retired USMC Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, and a few soldiers as they talk about how far technology has come, and where they see the technology heading.

The above is a synopsis of the five part series, which you can see in full below. The themes this documentary of sorts shows is the scenario fueling Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Check out our extensive first-look preview for more on Treyark's latest.

Default Black Ops 2 - Zombies Mode Confirmed, Non-Linear Gameplay Elements in the Campaign.

Now that you’ve seen the reveal trailer, you might be wondering whether zombies will make it back to Black Ops 2. To ease your concerns, Treyarch has confirmed that Zombies will be back, which comes as no surprise as since World at War it has been become one of the most popular modes in Treyarch developed Call of Duty titles.

During the latest episode of Roll Call on Call of Duty Elite TV, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia stated:

Quote:
If you like zombies, you’re going to be really happy with what we’re doing with Black Ops 2. It’s our biggest, most-ambitious zombies ever.
In regards to what how the campaign will be different, Lamia explained:

Quote:
Treyarch has done a lot of research into making this plausible near future scenario really resonate with the players.
He also promised that Black Ops 2 will have branching story lines, new non-linear gameplay elements that we’ve been designing into the campaign. As for the multiplayer, he promised that it will get it’s own reveal. He assured:

Quote:
Treyarch is really pushing the boundaries in mutliplayer. Also, Elite will have a deep integration inside of Black Ops 2.
Here’s the complete interview in case you didn’t catch it on Elite TV:

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - 300 developers are working on it.

If Black Ops 2 isn’t the greatest Call of Duty game ever, it won’t be for lack of trying; Activison has 300 staff on the job, studio head Mark Lamia told VentureBeat:

Quote:
There’s over 250 people at Treyarch, but there’s over 300 people working on the project. We do have contractors and test teams that aren’t part of the company. Those others aren’t actually employees of Treyarch. But there’s over 300 people working on the game right now.
Lamia said both the single-player campaign and multiplayer are pretty big and ambitious, but also noted that they really are creating another game with the Zombies there, explaining the need for such a large team. For such a massive undertaking, Treyarch isn’t averse to sharing resources with the other Call of Duty teams, he said:

Quote:
We actually do open up anything from our side that they can have access to, but they have their own team with their own creative work. Whether it’s inside of the Call of Duty franchise or, frankly, some other area of essential technology or whatever other area – if there are things that teams can access or leverage, then they do.

For example, the facial rig and the performance capture was something that we worked with Activision’s central technology team on quite a bit. There’s a lot of learnings there that can be applied to other teams.
Speaking of other Activision teams, Lamia noted that Treyarch and Infinity Ward share certain values across the franchise, even as they pull in different creative directions, he suggested:

Quote:
I think the desire to make sure, particularly, that the multiplayer game runs at 60 frames per second and is fast-paced and precise.

The cinematic nature of the game, I think, is sort of signature for the series. For every game that we’ve made, or Infinity Ward or some of the other developers have made, that’s an important aspect of it.
Guess what day Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 comes out? It comes out on November 13, for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, even if you live under a rock.

Default Black Ops 2 - Taking E-Sports to the Mainstream With Black Ops 2 Multiplayer.

Studio Head at Treyarch Mark Lamia and Game Design Director David Vonderhaar discuss Black Ops 2 multiplayer, E-Sports and everyone’s favorite: Zombies.

In case you haven’t heard, Black Ops is kind of a big deal again, what with the recent Black Ops 2 reveal trailer which we highly recommend checking out. If that’s not enough for you, be sure to check out our in-depth trailer analysis where we take a look at potential killstreaks and high-tech weapons included in this near-future sequel.

Though the single player is said to take place during missions spanning the 80′s all the way up to the year 2025, Treyarch has stated that the multiplayer will take place exclusively in the near-future setting of the year 2025. This gives developers a near-endless amount of opportunities to do something truly unique with the gameplay in Black Ops 2′s multiplayer. Mark Lamia explained to CVG in a recent interview:

Quote:
The weaponry and the advancements in technology over the next decade play really well in a game space, …also, advancements in technology will allow us to add new technology to the weapons that are going to be coming out. So, whether it’s totally innovative optics that people haven’t ever experienced or played, or weapons that are on the drawing boards today but not yet having been manufactured or just technologies that are on the drawing boards today – to be able to see, to be able to realize that and authentically portray that in the future and allow players to experience that will be totally a new experience for Call of Duty players and something that is at the heart of what we wanted to do.
Visually, the near-future setting could also play a large role in the way the game looks and feels. In fact, this directly ties in to the way David Vonderhaar plans to bring Black Ops 2′s multiplayer into the the E-Sports scene. Speaking with The Verge Vonderhaar explains:

Quote:
E-sports is a big agenda for us, something that the team at Treyarch has had a growing appreciation for ever since the original Black Ops. More importantly, taking e-sports to the mainstream is a really key thing, but in order to do that you have to make the game fun to watch.
Bringing Black Ops 2 to the year 2025 could be a fantastic way to add an interesting visual flare to the gameplay. Of course, one of Call of Duty’s biggest gameplay assets that really gives it the edge over other first-person shooters is its feel. Vonderhaar comments on the importance of keeping the game running at a solid 60 frames a second. He stresses:

Quote:
60 frames a second, whether you see it or not, you feel it, there’s no hitching. It’s that zen you feel when your brain feeds into the controller and back… that’s why 60fps is important to us.
The Verge also detailed two multiplayer maps that they had the chance to experience: one taking place on a small Yemen island called Socotra while the second taking place in downtown Los Angeles after a devastating drone attack. The first is described as being reminiscent of Modern Warfare 3′s DLC map Piazza while the second interestingly takes place near the E3 convention center. It could also be described as a more vertical take on the Wall Street map also featured in Modern Warfare 3. The toppled buildings make for manic geometry as players make their way through debris, smoke and fire. When it comes to engine upgrades, The Verge was told that the complex shadows casted by branches in the former Yemen map could not have been rendered by the older version of the game’s engine, as an example.

New modes will also be introduced to Treyarch’s ever-so-popular Zombie game type. Those worried about a lack of attention to their favorite game mode need not worry. Lamia has described it as Treyarch’s “biggest, most-ambitious zombies ever.” Interestingly, this will also be the first time that Zombies will run on the same engine used for the multiplayer. Previously, Zombies ran on a jury rigged campaign engine.

A legitimate concern of many Call of Duty fans is that Black Ops 2 will lose its realistic and gritty tone while being set in the near-future. Luckily, Lamia stresses that staying believable is a top priority for the Treyarch team. We gotta be grounded, explains Lamia. Words to live by. So far, things are looking promising for the future of Black Ops 2 (literally). Of course, this is only the beginning.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Pre-orders 3 times as high as the original's.

We'd bet our houses on Black Ops 2 being the biggest selling game of 2012. What's probably more interesting is whether it's going to be bigger than its predecessors, or whether analysts are right to suggest the monster FPS franchise may be on the wane.

Either way, Black Ops 2 is off to a great start at Amazon, with the online retailer telling MCV that day one pre-orders were three times as high as those achieved by the original Black Ops in 2010. Amazon UK video games manager Graham Chambers said:

Quote:
Set to be one of the biggest games of the year, it's great to see so much enthusiasm and anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Story to be written by 'Dark Knight' scribe David Goyer.

Black Ops 2's story will be written by David Goyer, it has been revealed. An acclaimed movie and comic book writer, Goyer's credits include being a co-writer on Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel reboot.

He previously contributed to Black Ops but only joined halfway through the project, according to Kotaku. Goyer will write Black Ops 2's story from the ground up, with the aim of creating a memorable villian in the form of Raul Menendez, who turns the US and Chinese governments against each other.

Unveiled yesterday, Black Ops 2 is set during a 21st century Cold War and will release on November 13 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game's first trailer has revealed that the campaign will feature usable drones and horses, as well as a robot enemy force to fight in a devastated Los Angeles.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Offers disruptive innovation, promises Activision.

Black Ops 2 brings disruptive innovation to the Call of Duty series, Activision has promised. It's followed up last night's official reveal with some chest-beating bluster from publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, who has thrown down a series of bold promises for this year's entry in the steamrolling FPS franchise. He said:

Quote:
Hands down, this is the most ambitious Call of Duty ever. We are bringing disruptive innovation to the franchise and we are doing it on several fronts. We're pushing the boundaries technologically, graphically, and from a narrative and gameplay perspective.

At the same time, we need to stay true to the epic realism, authenticity, heart pumping adrenaline, and cinematic action that so many people love and expect from a Call of Duty game. Treyarch's vision for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will redefine the Call of Duty franchise for the future - both literally and figuratively.
Mark Lamia, studio chief of developer Treyarch joined in too, insisting the game will confound expectations, he said:

Quote:
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, the team is crafting an experience that Call of Duty fans have never seen before. We are challenging assumptions on every front, with the single player campaign, Zombies and multiplayer.
Lamia added that the single player campaign will boast a thought-provoking story that introduces branching storylines and meaningful choices that impact the narrative, he added:

Quote:
Running in the multiplayer engine for the first time, Zombies gives players a bigger and more diverse set of gameplay experiences, as well as entirely new ways to wage war with the undead.

And in multiplayer, we're embracing all skill levels and play styles to give players more ways to engage. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, we're all in and we won't rest until we've launched nothing less than the best Call of Duty we've ever made.
You'll have to wait until 13th November to find if there's substance to the pair's shilling.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Zombies Teased.

Treyarch's zombies mode is quickly becoming more anticipated than the Call of Duty games themselves. The team asks: Where's your shotgun?"

The image below was published on the official Call of Duty twitter this morning. Though Activision unleashed details for Black Ops II earlier this week, the publisher didn't reveal much about the zombies mode. We'll hopefully learn more at E3 next month.

Default Black Ops 2 - Fiction distinct from wider CoD universe player decisions impact story.

Treyarch’s Mark Lamia has confirmed that Black Ops and Black Ops 2 don’t take place in the same world as Modern Warfare and other Call of Duty games, the studio head told Ausgamers:

Quote:
Black Ops is its own thing. It’s inside the Call of Duty franchise, but it’s its own fiction. It’s sort of its own brand of fiction as well; it’s this historical fiction where we root things in a historical setting and context and we weave our fiction through it.
Lamia said the team approached Black Ops 2′s future setting in the same way it approached historical research in past games, like the first Black Ops’ 1960′s setting or World War II, the developer explained:

Quote:
Obviously there are books written on where things are headed and technology, but we were fortunate to work with some experts and one of those experts was Peter Singer, who is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute. We approached him because he has written a book about advanced robotics and drones and future warfare, which is really important.

We wanted to make sure that this is Call of Duty, it can’t be too sci-fi, it’s gotta feel like this is plausible. It’s part of the DNA of Black Ops where we set up these plausible scenarios and then we have our fiction going through it and our story. Things that used to be the domain of great science-fiction books is no longer, it’s reality; it’s happening; starting to play out in the headlines today, but certainly in the coming decade.
Black Ops 2′s plot will be conveyed by several narrators, and as a direct sequel to the first game, will involve some of the same characters. Lamia offered:

Quote:
Woods is an old man in the year 2025, and he happens to be in this place called The Vault, which is a place where the CIA keeps its former operatives that are too sensitive to be somewhere else.

You’re playing David Mason – the son of Alex Mason – and as this opens up in 2025, you go to visit old man Woods and you’re trying to start to unravel what is going on with the villain [Raul Menendez].
Mason will ask Woods about past events and how they tie into the game’s plot, bringing the player up to speed on what happened in the interim, but Treyarch also wants the plot to take place around the character. Lamia said:

Quote:
You’re going to be on the hunt for Menendez and unravelling that mystery, and then you’ll remember things that Woods has told you as part of his narrative And that’s how we’ll jump you back to the past and propel that story forward as well.
Treyarch doesn’t have a choice, studio head Mark Lamia told Shacknews in a recent interview. With the franchise now reaching its ninth iteration, the team is itching to do something, he said:

Quote:
When we talk about pushing the boundaries, that is an internal creative desire for a team of veterans that have created a lot of Call of Duties… At this point in the franchise, I think it would be far riskier to not push the boundaries.
Lamia also told Shack not to expect a linear path this time out with everyone playing basically the same story, he added:

Quote:
That won’t be the case this time. You’re going to make decisions along the way, and they will have an implication on your story. Some of those choices will be obvious in ‘Call of Duty style.’ And sometimes, just as in real life, the implications might be more subtle and you might not realize them until later.

To be clear: this isn’t an RPG. We’re not trying to do that. We are trying to give players some story branching in their gameplay so they can see how some of their choices affect the outcome of the game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is headed to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Players will be up against a militarized SCO.

Treyarch’s Mark Lamia has said the organization players will be up against in Black Ops 2 is the real-life Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, or SCO, which in the fiction of the game has militarized itself. First, a bit of background on the SCO for you, courtesy of Wikipedia.

The real SCO is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization, which was originally formed in 1996 as the Shanghai Five by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. When Uzbekistan joined the group in 2001, the organization was renamed.

During its July 2005 summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, representatives of India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan attended, and by 2007 the SCO had initiated over twenty large-scale projects ranging from transportation, energy and telecommunications to meetings where discussions on security, military, defence, foreign affairs, and economics were held.

The SCO is now recognized by the United Nations and is an observer in the General Assembly, the European Union, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. In Black Ops 2, during the year 2025, the organization has its own special forces as well as its own black ops. Lamia told Kotkau:

Quote:
As the proxy war conflicts occur [in the game]. you might encounter these SCO forces. Maybe they’ll be a part of the multiplayer. Who knows?
Although that was all Kotaku could get out of Lamia in respect to the game’s opposing forces, he was most adamant about the main villain this time out, Raul Menendez, who is supposedly acting alone and has hacked into the US’s robotic tanks and drones in order to stir the already sweltering pot of mistrust between the superpowers

Hopefully, the developers will shed more light on the conflict in the game, and how closely it all ties into current politics between the various counties and organizations – and how, if at all, they will play into the zombie portion of the game.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Could Setting Land Activision In Legal Trouble?

Treyarch’s Black Ops II marks the series’ first move into the future, but it also raises questions about the ongoing relationship between Activision and Infinity Ward. Over two years ago, details regarding the lawsuit began to appear publicly. One such detail stated that Call of Duty titles set after Vietnam would be exclusive to Infinity Ward. We recently obtained some court documents, and it appears that this clause was indeed included in Infinity Ward’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

INFO Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.-postnam.jpg

As you can see in the MOU excerpt above, Infinity Ward had the rights to all Call of Duty games set in modern day (post-Vietnam), the near future, or distant future. With Black Ops II’s 2025 setting, it’s clear that Treyarch went with the near future setting anyway.

With the historically stressful relationship between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, the documents suggest that the latter may have been frustrated with their restrictions.. Several documents allude to Treyarch’s repeated attempts to feature elements that would make the original Black Ops feel more modern or otherwise bank off of the popularity of the Modern Warfare name. One complaint revolves around the use of guns in Black Ops that weren’t designed or made available until the 1980s or 1990s. Another centers on an email from an Activision rep that initially proposed Modern Warfare Origins as a title for Black Ops, branding it as a prequel to Infinity Ward’s series.

INFO Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.-rightstobrand.jpg

Infinity Ward’s MOU states that the developer had the rights to anything featuring Modern Warfare branding. Despite this, former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella claim that Activision never provided them with the gold master of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex (the Treyarch-developed Wii port of Call of Duty 4) before the game went into production. Another claim states that Activision attempted to keep Infinity Ward in the dark regarding the development of the free-to-play Call of Duty Online title (which never materialized).

Considering that the trial is yet to happen, it's unclear if Activision could land itself in legal trouble thanks to Black Ops II's futuristic setting. I spoke with Eric Chad, an intellectual property attorney with the firm Merchant & Gould. Regarding Activision's punishment if Zampella and West win the lawsuit, Chad said:

Quote:
[Pulling Black Ops II from the shelves] is likely a possible remedy. This does occasionally happen, but I think it is much more likely that the remedy would be some sort of damages payment, like a forced royalty. It seems like Black Ops II is likely substantially complete. That might make it hard for the court to order them to change it. Much more likely would be either of the remedies you discussed above [Pulling the game or facing a damage payment]. Damages, in my opinion, are the most likely.
Many of the court documents make mention of the post-Vietnam clause, but the current status of the agreement is unknown. I asked Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia about the matter last month, and he declined to comment. Other attempts to reach out to Activision reps have been met with similar silence (which is understandable considering they’re in relation to ongoing litigation). One likely scenario is that Activision believes the agreement was voided when West and Zampella were fired, allowing Treyarch to legally break the Vietnam barrier. Despite this, we may not know for sure until more details of the ongoing trial are made public.

Default Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Setting pre-order records.

Activision has said it's seeing record pre-order numbers for the recently revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Speaking to investors and analysts following the announcement of the company's first quarter financial results, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said (via Seeking Alpha):

Quote:
Although it's very early, we're also incredibly pleased with the pre-orders, which in the first week since reveal are tracking ahead of the record-breaking pace set by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Overall, we think this game and the move to the near future setting is the biggest step for franchise since leaving World War 2 and bringing Call of Duty into the modern era. We look forward to sharing more details with you in the upcoming months.

We've also been extremely pleased with early consumer response and engagement. The Black Ops 2 reveal trailer was the most watched video of the day on YouTube and views were up 82% compared to the reveal trailer for Modern Warfare 3. During our launch, we had 5 of the top 9 U.S. top-trending topics on Twitter at the same time. And Facebook traffic is 43% higher than the prior year.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick also said of the game:

Quote:
We believe that the recently announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will redefine the Call of Duty franchise through new levels of innovation in gameplay. We believe that it has the potential to be the best Call of Duty ever. Along with our retailers, we hope to make Call of Duty the biggest entertainment experience of the year.

Default Black Ops 2 - To Include a New Knifing System and SnD-Inspired Game Mode?

Little has been confirmed about the gameplay and game modes of Black Ops II’s multiplayer other than the fact that it will be set in the year 2025, as confirmed earlier by Studio Head at Treyarch Mark Lamia, and other than what we’ve discovered in our trailer analysis. However, since Black Ops II’s reveal on May 1st, developers at Treyarch have given us at least a few hints that we’ll have to make due with.

Treyarch has confirmed Zombies to be returning, as many already know, but you may have missed that Combat Training, a popular practice game mode featured in the original Black Ops, will also be returning as confirmed by Treyarch on twitter.

When it comes to multiplayer, little is known about the game modes we will be treated to. We can assume standards like free-for-all, team deathmatch and domination will be returning, but what about the fan-favorite Search-and-Destroy? According to Gameplay Designer at Treyarch, David Vonderhaar, we will be seeing a game mode (or game modes) that is inspired by SnD, but perhaps not quite the same. Vonderhaar stated in response to a follower on Twitter:

Quote:
We have some things inspired by that mode I can’t wait till you about later this year.
He also added that the MP has new fan requested Mute options for easy muting of everyone in the lobby except your party. Additionally, Vonderhaar has also given us something to chew on regarding Black Ops II’s knifing system, something that has been a controversial aspect of Call of Duty’s gameplay for a while now. In response to YouTuber OnlyUseMeBlade, Vonderhaar recently tweeted:

Quote:
We have something coming that you’ll more or less be wanting to take credit for. I’m looking forward to that day.
On the IPlayCoD forums, user aadamstewartt has gathered a number of things this could mean, referring to some ideas OnlyUseMeBlade had regarding Call of Duty’s knifing system:

• A default two-hit knife system with a perk that makes it one-hit knife
• The knife to be a secondary
• The knife to be in the equipment slot

What changes to the knifing system would you like to see made in Black Ops II? What do you think this new SnD-inspired multiplayer game mode could be?

Default Black Ops II: And Footstep Sounds – To Hear or Not To Hear?

Sound has always played an important role in the serious Call of Duty gamer’s game plan. Commonly referred to as “sound whoring,” it is a technique that must be developed in order to play at pro levels. With previous Call of Duty titles featuring perks that altered the volume of enemy footsteps but never having quite perfected the balance issues, Treyarch developer David Vonderhaar is looking to strike a happy middle ground in the upcoming Black Ops II.

According to Vonderhaar, Call of Duty games have traditionally had perks that have made your footsteps quiet or quieter (depending on your point of view about what should be included in that: gear rattle, weapon switch sounds, mantel exertions, breath noise, pain recovery., etc), and have also had perks (or perk pros, depending on the game) that make enemy footsteps louder. The question that Vonderhaar poses to his followers is this:

Quote:
So, if I have a perk that makes me quiet (or quieter, or my footsteps quieter) and you have a perk that makes makes my footsteps louder, what would you expect to happen:

1. Nothing. You having a perk that makes my footsteps louder should not make them louder if I have a perk that makes them quiet.

(This is how it often works in previous games.)

2. Cancel each other out. You would hear my footsteps the way it would be if neither of us had any perk.

(This makes sense to me, but it could be odd when you don’t make noise to yourself, but do to other players.)

3. Another answer in this space.
That last one looks about right to us. What about you guys?
