Server Admins: Fight against Cheaters!

Aan admins van Call of Duty 4 servers,

Hierbij maak ik je even attent op een kleine update van de Call of Duty 4 Server Tutorial.
Ik raad iedereen namelijk aan om de PB Config te downloaden (Stap 8 uit de tutorial) om de server up-to-date te houden tegen wallhacks en al die troep.

Het leek me beter om even apart in een topicje te vermelden, om de update even aan te kondigen. Want wie wil er nou cheaters en/of hackers in zijn server? Gebruik daarom de config en plaats deze in de Punkbuster map.

Well done, Kridje.

Just one thing - MD5Tool-Settings should not be posted public.Makes them kind of useless and is a reason to revoke streaming status at punksbusted and i think pbbans aswell.

Yeah, that's true. But I don't think the most cheaters will check my files. Let's hope so.

1.) You make it easy for each gamer interested in cheating to browse for the files.

2.) You make it easy for cheaters to know which cheats are looked for - additional to silent pb cheatchecks.
3.) You make it easy for cheaters to modify their downloaded cheats so they don't match the searchstring anymore.

Hm. But how can I ever make the config only acessable for server admins?
The config can also be downloaded from ClanBase - Files... So, I don't think it will change the issue.

And, I think the average cheaters will not change their wallhack but try another server.

I will point that out to punksbusted and pbbans - will see how long they remain streaming and get access to the latest md5checks.

Just remove those md5tool entries in your downloadable config.

Without streaming no one gets access to those md5checks. Nor here neither elsewhere.

Being public - they are useless in fact - especially in a tournament or a ladder - ridiculuos.

Okay. I have got an idea. I will delete the MD5tools entries, and replace it with an comment "You can mail to kriDje91[at]hotmail.com for optimal security against MD5 tools", so that it is only accessable for some important server admins.

What's your opinion about this?

as said - i can't make that legit.

a serveradmin who wants those checks on his server and wants access to the latest md5checks has to stream himself - no legit way around.

Neither on punksbusted nor on pbbans those checks are available for the public (to non-streaming admins) for obvious reasons.

only if they stream themselves. You can't give a warranty no abuse is done or they are posted elsewhere - like this case here.


If i3D would force default-streaming as suggested half a year ago - all i3D-servers would pe protected legally.

Thanks for the information. In fact, deleting this important information, is the best fighting against cheaters!
