Gran Turismo 6 - Could hit PS4, suggests Yamauchi.

Gran Turismo 6 was announced for a holiday 2013 release on PS3 yesterday, but it may yet get a dedicated PS4 release, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi has suggested. Now, the developer has told Gamespot:

It’s a logical assumption that a PS4 build will happen, given the game’s proximity to the launch of Sony’s new console, but we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation before jumping the gun. Yamauchi also suggested that save transfer between PS3 and PS4 could be possible.

Gran Turismo 6 - Why it is on PS3, not PS4.

Sony has moved to explain why Gran Turismo 6 is releasing on PS3 and not PS4 later this year. PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan told the PS Blog:

Speaking earlier this month at the Gran Turismo 6 reveal event, series creator and Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi said:

Seemingly moving to settle any premature excitement, however, Yamauchi added:

The original Gran Turismo launched in Japan in December 1997 before releasing globally the following year. Gran Turismo is Sony's best-selling franchise to date with unit sales of 70 million, almost half of which have been made in Europe.

Gran Turismo 6 was set to come with new engine audio enhancements Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi has stressed that the changes may not be ready in time for launch. They could come as a post-launch patch, he says. Speaking with Eurogamer, Yamauchi said:

When quizzed if the updated audio could be patched in at a later date, he replied:

He added that data will not be transferable between GT5 and GT6, and explained:

Gran Tursimo 6 is out December 5 in Japan, then December 6 worldwide.

Gran Turismo 6 - Will have a large day one patch.

Gran Turismo 6 will receive a sizable day one patch upon its release this December, with updates set to roll out in a support period scheduled to last 12 months. Following news that the audio - an area of contention for many players of Polyphony's series - likely won't be updated for the release of Gran Turismo 6, creator Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed to Eurogamer that a large day one patch will update other features within the game. Yamauchi said:

Gran Turismo 5's release in 2010 also featured a large day one patch that introduced multiplayer to the game. There'll be multiplayer on day one in Gran Turismo 6, with a new and improved online lounge that allows players to set up championships and races with more ease, and also via smartphone and PC apps. He added:

It's likely that some of the online will also be updated on day one. He explained:

With Gran Turismo 6 reliant on patches and updates to deliver its features and content, Yamauchi addressed the idea of the series moving towards acting as a service in the future rather than a boxed product, and whether Gran Turismo 7 could be released in a Prologue version that expanded over time. He said:

Gran Turismo 6 - To feature Bathurst circuit.

Gran Turismo 6 will feature the Mount Panorama circuit, a famous Australian touring car track based in Bathurst. Polyphony Digital Inc. has confirmed the inclusion of the track a month after news that the much requested track will feature in Forza 5.

This will mark the first time Mount Panorama has featured in a Gran Turismo game, with studio Polyphony Digital claiming it will be a virtual carbon-copy of the circuit. Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi said in a statement:

Gran Turismo 6 will release exclusively for PlayStation 3 on December 6.

Gran Turismo 6 - To deliver online Ayrton Senna content.

Sony has signed an agreement with the Ayrton Senna Institute, a non-profit organisation founded in the famous F1 driver’s memory, to deliver online content updates from one of the most storied careers in the sports history. According to the PlayStation Blog:

No details of how the deal benefits the Ayrton Senna Institute were provided, but here’s hoping they’re multitudinous; the organisation works to provide children with life skills, notably literacy and other education essentials. The Institute now supports 25% of all schools in Brazil, trained 750,000 teachers, and benefited 17 million children – a magnificent legacy to a supremely talented driver.

Gran Turismo 6 launches exclusively for PS3 in early December.

Gran Turismo 6 - Concept Movie #6 Start your Engines.

Sony posted their latest Gran Turismo 6 trailer to the PlayStation blog, which seems to suggest that players may be racing on the moon. The trailer starts out with images of the moon, which was confusing as it immediately jumps to video of shiny new cars, new tracks, and said shiny cars racing on said tracks. And then it shows a brief glimpse of a track on the moon. I guess there was no place else for the racer to go but up?

Gran Turismo 6 will release on December 6, 2013 for the PlayStation 3.
