Because "top" gamers do not make good game designers, just people who case operate very well within the rule system which was forced upon them by others. The important thing in a game is the fun-factor, something which is different for everybody. I've seen quite some "top" gamers crank down the graphics settings so low that the game is basically toned down to a few distinctive colors and extremely blured textures. They do not do that for the FPS, they do it for visibility reasons. But by doing that they actually break the rule set, because visibility in 3D shooters is part of the game play. Same thing with hit-sounds. (I consider these things cheating) The negative gameplay related comments I usually see are simply caused by the fact that the comment maker sucks at that particular aspect of the gameplay. "It's too dark.", no.. you just suck at noticing players. Game developers are usually (pretty much a requirement I think) avid gamers, usually playing a lot of different games. "top" gamers usually only play a few games. Game devs should be able to "feel" what works and what doesn't. That doesn't mean gamers will like what the devs think feels best, but that's because the gamers don't know the things that were scrapped. It's simply rude or ignorant to think that game developers don't know what they are doing. I'm not saying top gamers are never good game designers. For example look at Cliff, he was a top "Super Mario Bros." gamer. But how many "Super Mario Bros." gamers do you think would like Cliff's version of the game. -- Michiel "elmuerte" Hendriks elmuerte (AT) drunksnipers (DOT) com the Unreal Admin page http://www.unrealadmin.org ut3servers archive (do not post outside this mailing list): http://lists.unrealadmin.org/archive/ut3servers u/p: ut3servers/srevres3tu --------------------- TO LEAVE THE LIST --------------------- Write to LISTSERV (AT) LIST (DOT) EPICGAMES.COM and, in the text of your message (not the subject line), write: SIGNOFF UT3SERVERS |
