Default [ut3servers] Fw: [ut3servers] Server names

Hiya - A blast from the past!

I am embarrassed to say that my server still suffers from the server name
problem.

I looked through my list notes and I came across this message I am replying
to.

I tried the suggestion but it does not work:

[Engine.GameReplicationInfo]
ServerName=(CoA) House of Ass
ShortName=UT3 Server
MessageOfTheDay=Welcome to a UT3 Server!

When I put my server name in the "ServerName=" spot above my name goes from

(CoA) House of Ass

To:

(CoA) House of Ass: House of Ass - UT3 (in the in-game
browser)

I want to change the name of the server.

Is the only way this can be done is by changing the gamespy login ID and
password?

Would swear that I read somewhere that this should work? or there is a
different way to do it?

I asked my GSP and they said it could not be done. They told me: "We cannot
fix your server name, that's a feature of UT3, all servers have their owner
names on them."

Cheers!

Hi - thanks for the reply.

I did look at that:

Server names can be specified in the server's INI file, as of patch 1.1.

The ServerDescription field isn't in plain ascii or text as you and I know it. Instead its in UCS2 aka UTF-16 which is then serialized as numeric strings.

So the only way to name a server is the text that is "serialized as numeric strings."

I thought there was a way around that which allows you to use the ServerName= section from the [Engine.GameReplicationInfo] section

or does it need to be UTF-16 in the [Engine.GameReplicationInfo] section?
section?

Something seems wrong here. Setup as it is my sever name shows up as just (CoA) in my server monitor at gametracker.

Hey Chaos,

In some instances I have found, some characters like ( or - will affect the changing of the name of the server in your Game ini, so just put in House of Ass first, be sure to shut your server down before transferring the modified game.ini back to your server.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Did not fix it.

Do I just need to remove the "ServerDescription=072000111000". . . . line from the command line file that starts the server?
