EA's finally, officially confirmed its modern day Medal of Honor reboot, simply called 'Medal of Honor'. The new game, which as we already knew takes place in war-torn Afghanistan, is being developed by EA Los Angeles and DICE for a 2010 release. According to EA:

The franchise reboot introduces the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle, says EA.

Apparently the development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Exec producer, Greg Goodrich says of the announcement:

EA LA boss, Sean Decker adds:

A world-premier first-look at Medal of Honor is promised for the Spike TV VGA's next week, on December 12.

Medal of Honor - Box Art Soldier is a Real Person?

    medal-of-honor-afghanistan-cowyboy_480x270.jpg

Yesterday's surprise unveiling of the new Medal of Honor caught more than a few guffaws from the peanut gallery, mostly due to the turbo-butch gunman that's emblazoned on the game's box. So what's the story behind the bearded, backwards-cap-and-goggles-wearing soldier? Surely this guy's simply an example of EA trying to use a little artistic license to further distinguish their modern-day Medal of Honor reboot from the competition, right? Right?

Actually, if UGO's Chris Plante's hunch is correct, the dude on the cover of Medal of Honor is a real person, or at least very closely based on one. The man in the pictures above, nicknamed "Cowboy" in a series of photos from LIFE Magazine, was a United States Special Forces soldier during the beginning of the war in Afghanistan. What ever became of this bearded bastion of liberty in the seven years since those photos were taken? What's he have to do with Medal of Honor? Nobody knows for sure.

We'll likely have to wait for the game's debut trailer during the Spike TV Video Game Awards for the official answers. Until then, here's a picture of "Cowboy" working his biceps like there's no tomorrow:

EA's clarified the release window for its new modern day Medal of Honor, via the newly-launched official website.

Medal of Honor - Army man explains MOH operatives.

The army has explained to Eurogamer that Medal of Honor's Tier 1 soldiers really are the best of the best, and take on missions that no one else can handle. relayed a source, unearthed by former British army Major Neil Powell.

Tier 1 soldiers, as we mentioned earlier, answer to the National Command Authority. This is a term used by the US military and government to refer to the ultimate lawful source of military orders - the top of the chain. Up there the President and the Secretary of Defense call the shots and Jack Bauer answers.

EA Los Angeles has been tasked with the single-player, while Battlefield creator EA DICE will sculpt multiplayer. Deployment is pencilled for autumn 2010.

Medal of Honor - Shows Off Realism, Coming Next Fall.

We got our first look at the new Medal of Honor reboot tonight during the Spike Video Game Awards, and true to our suspicions it was remarkably similar to a certain other hit franchise. The gameplay showed off some impressive visuals, a look down the iron sights, and plenty of aerial-based action. Its similarities certainly weren't accidental, but there's nothing wrong with taking notes from a game that broke all kinds of sales records. The trailer ended by giving a more specific (if not fairly obvious) release window: fall of 2010.

Medal of Honor - Frame by Frame.

Developers love to sneak things by us, and the best possible way to do so is in trailers. Even in small teasers there can be countless hints towards possible gameplay mechanics, story reveals, and other subtleties. Often, to find them all, you need to go frame by frame, looking everywhere for everything. Its a bit of a pain, so we decided to take that strain off of you. That's the concept behind Frame by Frame.
EA is really pushing forward with their new take on Medal of Honor, and it looks to draw inspiration from plenty of other shooters. And by plenty of other shooters, we mean Modern Warfare. Take a look.

    Trailer.

Denk ook niet dat ze dat er gaan tussensteken :p

Misschien in een latere trailer, en misschien ondersteunen ze wel helemaal geen dedicated servers, FAIL!

I just put the whole interview on the site :)

Greg Goodrich, the Executive Producer on Medal of Honor, has provided answers to community questions regarding the Medal of Honor trailer.

Q: Is that all gameplay footage throughout the trailer?
A: Yep, the trailer is 100% in-game footage.

Q: Where is the “bearded guy” that is on the box cover? I don’t believe I saw him in the trailer.
A: You are correct. The character on our box cover was not featured in our first trailer. But I can confirm that he is indeed a character in our game and will be revealed (along with his highly skilled and very specialized Tier 1 unit) in the near future.

Q: What exactly is a Tier 1 Operator? And what do they do?
A: Tier 1 is a category. It is not a unit designation or a name given to a specific task force. It is a term that is used to describe the level at which these operators perform and function. It also refers to their place within the national command structure. The term “Tier 1” can also be used to describe a specific unit’s ability to carry out missions that require the most highly skilled, proficient and disciplined group of warriors within the U.S. Special Operations Community. There are only a handful of units within the U.S. Government that are considered Tier 1. We have been given the rare opportunity to work closely with members of these units during the development of Medal of Honor.

Q: There was an ATV and a helicopter scene in the trailer. Can we expect to see some vehicular gameplay?
A: That is the plan. At minimum, you can expect the ones that you saw in the trailer ;-)

Q: The ending scene with the guy with a bomb attached to him gave me chills. Can we expect this darker feel/tone throughout the game?
A: This will be the very first (M) rated Medal of Honor. However, we will always be grounded by our core tenets of authenticity and respect for the soldier.

Q: There are some doors that get kicked in during the trailer. Can we expect breach and clear gameplay?
A: The player can do many cool things in the game, and kicking in doors is certainly one of them!

Q: Are you keeping the PC community in mind for this game? Please don’t do just a simple port!
A: We take the PC version of our game as seriously as we do any other version.

Q: How much of the game is based on real life, true events in Afghanistan?
A: Medal of Honor is “historical fiction” set against the backdrop of the current war in Afghanistan. Much like “Saving Private Ryan” is a fictional story told through the lens of a small band of characters during WWII.
