Surviving the L4D Survival Pack

    The lovely and talented Kerry Davis and Scott Dalton whipped up a story on the Left 4 Dead Blog called Surviving the L4D Survival Pack. In it, as you might have guessed, they outline next week's big release:
    Survival Mode pits your team against never ending waves of infected. Sounds simple. Just trap the survivors in a small part of a map, unleash the hordes, and record the longest time. Survival Mode, which will be released next week, is actually a bit more than that.
    Our goals for Survival Mode are to deliver a mode of play distinct from Campaign or Versus, have games that regularly last under ten minutes, and emphasize competition with team play through leaderboards.

    Survival Mode draws on the planning and communication aspects of a successful Finale or Crescendo event, while taking it to another level. It rapidly hits a fever pitch that only a well coordinated team will be able to successfully survive. Everything from simply covering a reviving teammate, to making every shot count to minimize reloads becomes crucial in Survival Mode.
    Given the importance of pacing in Survival Mode, we need to define as precisely as possible how the difficulty ramps up during the course of a round.

    We have numerous variables to work with: mob spawn frequency, special infected spawn frequency, number of each type of special infected, total number of special infected, tank spawn frequency, total number of tanks, and so on. We need all of these variables to work together to create a fairly smooth difficulty curve.

    Left 4 Dead Survival Pack Tomorrow

    Valve sends word that Left 4 Dead's super awesome survivial pack will be released tomorrow:
    The Left 4 Dead Survival Pack will be released via Xbox Live at roughly 2 am PST on April 21. The DLC is free to all owners of Left 4 Dead and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode. The PC version of the DLC is targeted for release later in the day. ​

    Left 4 Dead Survival Pack Live On Live

    The long-awaited Left 4 Dead Survival Pack is now available to download through the Xbox Live Marketplace. Weighing in a slight 101MB, the package includes a new Lighthouse Survival Mode map, the Survival Mode gameplay modification, and numerous other gameplay tweaks.

    Left 4 Dead Patched

    Mini Left 4 Dead patch fixes a few launch day Survival Pack PC bugs:
    • Fixed an incorrect DLL for windows dedicated servers
    • Corrected players not receiving the Lighthouse achievement
    • Added missing Survival only sounds
    • Fixed issue with awarding medal achievements
    • Corrected ghost icons appearing survival scoreboard
    As always, restart Steam to instantly receive the update.

    they better fix the lobby bug, that you can connect to your own server.

    I did not have problems connecting from lobby to my groupserver prior and after the first update, just updated the server to todays latest update, and tested search key, all works fine.

    Left 4 Dead Update Released

    Exploits and bug fixes abound in the latest Left 4 Dead PC update:
    • Darkened the Lighthouse background movie and increased the contrast with the user interface elements
    • Chapter selection is now available when creating a Survival lobby
    • Single player coop now works correctly after playing Survival online
    • The correct game mode will be set when playing back a demo
    • Changed holdout server spew to be development only
    • Stats are no longer updated while viewing a demo
    • Correctly update the leaderboard based on the player's personal time, not the team best time
    • Show the player's best time in the scoreboard
    • Removed Survival exploits from The Terminal, Last Stand, The Crane, The Boathouse and The Warehouse
    • Fixed tanks sometimes not spawning after 15-20 minutes
